Himalayan Film School, Bir Billing Overview

Himalayan Film School, within the Deer Park Institute in Kangra Valley's Chowgan Village, is not only a prestigious film school in the country but also a popular tourist attraction in Himachal Pradesh. The institute boasts of a pagoda-style structure with Tibetan influence, featuring several Buddhist carvings and paintings all around. The Film School, in conjunction with Tuning Fork Films, organises numerous workshops on areas like story-telling, photography and film-making. The workshops include activities wherein participants are put to the test on the basis of their creativity, self-reflection, and their ability to work in groups on writing scripts, shooting, editing, and more.

How to reach

The school is about 16km from Joginder Nagar and can be reached via car/cab (fares vary) or by bus; the former will take approximately 30 minutes. Buses from Joginder Nagar drop off passengers at Bir Road junction from where it costs about INR 100 to get to the school in a taxi.
