Alexandria Aquarium, Alexandria Overview

Alexandria Aquarium is an aquarium and Marine Research Institute built in 1930. It is located on the Eastern Harbour of Alexandria near El Anfoushy. Varied species from the Mediterranean sea and the Red Sea region close to Egypt can be seen here. Among the aquatic animals on display are freshwater fish from the Nile, crustaceans, and turtles.

Founded to promote and preserve aquatic life, the Aquarium hosts several labs, a library, and water tanks for fish and marine plants. Nearby attractions include Al Maamoura Beach and a museum connected to the aquarium and showcasing specimens of preserved marine life from the Amazon, Red Sea, and the Mediterranean. The museum also houses a giant whale skeleton and a statue of a mythic mermaid.
