The largest lake in the state of Mizoram, Tamdil Lake is a human-made lake exclusively to serve as a natural attraction for the state's tourism. Tamdil Lake, which translates into 'Lake of Mustard ' in Mizo, is a beautiful lake with the magnificent landscape, clear, blue water and serene environment. Tucked between evergreen forests and hills, the lake is located in the wilderness of the hills of Mizoram, some 100 km east of Aizawl.

The place is favorite for relaxation and gives one an opportunity to be away from the crowd, in the lap of nature. Besides being a tourist destination, Tamdil Lake is also very crucial for the fisherman in the locality. One can boat in the Lake, walk around its shores or just spread a carpet, lie down and read a book- there are one too many ways to spend some enjoyable time at the lake.

How to reach Tamdil (Tam Lake)

  • Air: Lingui airport in Aizawl is the only airport in the state and is connected to Guwahati and Kolkata. From Lingui you can hire a taxi directly for Tamdil Lake which shall take you anywhere between three-four hours.

  • Rail: Nearest rail head to Aizawl is Silchar which 158 km away, Silchar is well connected to Guwahati Railway Station. From Silchar you can catch a bus or hire a Tata Sumo till Aizawl.

  • Road: Aizawl is 450 km from Guwahati by road and is connected by National Highways to the capital cities of other North-Eastern states as well. There are connecting buses and hired Tata Sumo which provide connectivity to the city. From Aizawl, Tamdil Lake is just 100 km and can be reached through a hired Tata Sumo.
