Adelaide Fringe

The southern hemisphere's largest arts festival and the second largest anywhere after Edinburgh. For about a month from mid-February the parklands fill with pop-up venues and the East End turns into one long open-air programme of comedy, cabaret and theatre. In 2027 it runs 19 February to 21 March, overlapping the Adelaide Festival. Outside those weeks there is nothing to see.

The festival is open-access and anyone can register and enter. It begins with free opening night celebrations and then some ticketed events occur along with free events. The three main venues include Gluttony, Royal Croquet Club, and the Garden of Unearthly Delights. There are pop up venues in parks, lanes, and disused warehouses among other places. They bring together over 6000+ artists in about 300 venues across South Australia. There are outdoor events, food tastings, and even events held in historic sites like bomb shelters. They promote local talent, and inclusivity and support cultural diversity. It is a great place for visitors who crave something different exciting and weird.
