I had a very unpleasant argument over the phone with the host at checkout entirely their fault.
Booking indicated checkout by 10 am but I received a message from the property saying checkout by 11 am.
Two days before departure I asked for a late checkout by 12 am, which the host confirmed by email.
At 10 am sharp on the day of departure the cleaning service opened the front door (did not knock or ring the bell), startled my daughter and said she had to pack and leave immediately. I was in the neighbourhood and had to rush back and argue with the non-English-speaking staff and their manager over the phone.
Finally, the same host who confirmed the 12 am checkout called me at 10:30 am and said we had to leave immediately.
I refused very politely based on the confirmed late checkout and the fact that our luggage was still all over the place.
The host threatened to throw us out by force if we did not comply.
I presume that meanwhile someone had booked the flat for the day of our departure but check in is at 3 pm so there was enough time to prepare the property for the next guest and this is not the right attitude anyway.
Guests definitely should not be the ones to suffer from the host's inability to plan and communicate with their own personnel or subcontractors on a timely basis!
