Not what we expected

Panny, on the door as he was so welcoming and always smiling. Nothing was too much trouble. Anne-Marie, the restaurant manager as she did her best to ensure we had an enjoyable meal. Sasanker, the waiter in the bar. A fascinating young man studying Maths with plans for the future.

Maybe we chose the wrong weekend, but we found a large number of the clientele were pretentious characters and continually rude, unsavoury, and wholly unacceptable for a 5 star hotel. We'd had a dinner and breakfast deal and on Friday evening we booked our evening meal early as we were going to the theatre. Initially, the restaurant said they weren't open at 5:30pm, but we were seated and offered a set menu. Whilst we understand it's an Italian restaurant, we could not eat any of the choices as there was a very narrow and specialised selection on offer with no fish, chicken, steak, etc. As a result, we ate our evening meal, a burger after the theatre in the bar over a coffee table. Not recommended. Even the process of getting a taxi outside was a battle. Despite being first in the queue, we were pushed aside by some rude characters who promptly gave me a mouthful. Even the doormen couldn't resolve it. Not the sort of people I'd expect at a 5-star hotel.

Deeply Disappointing Experience at a Five-Star Hotel

I recently stayed at this hotel, renowned for being part of the prestigious five-star Intercontinental brand. However, my experience was far from the luxury and excellence I expected. The problems began at check-in. I was assured a 30-minute wait for my room after upgrading, but this turned into an unbearable four-hour delay. This not only showed a blatant disregard for my time but also seemed like a tactic to increase revenue rather than enhance my comfort. Furthermore, the upgrade charges, which were supposed to be waived, were still on my bill at checkout. This, combined with the rude and unprofessional attitude of the front desk staff, was extremely disheartening. The inconsistency in the billing process, where I received two conflicting bills, highlighted a worrying lack of organization. Cleanliness was also a major issue. The room, particularly the towels with unsightly brown spots, raised serious hygiene concerns. To address these issues, I even had Alexandros Chrysanthakopoulos, the reception manager, visit my room. Despite his promises of a satisfactory resolution, nothing improved. Before writing this review, I tried contacting the hotel to speak with either Sam or Alexandros, only to be told that both were unavailable. This lack of responsiveness is unacceptable in any hotel, let alone a supposed five-star establishment. From the misleading check-in process focused more on upselling than guest comfort, to the unfulfilled promises, poor room conditions, and unprofessional staff behavior, my experience was extremely disappointing. It's disheartening to see such a renowned hotel fail to uphold the basic standards of hospitality. I urge potential guests to reconsider staying here, as the hotel currently falls dramatically short of the five-star service it claims to provide. I am awaiting a response from the hotel management addressing these severe shortcomings.

The cleanliness and the fitness center along with the lobby cafe

While check in, the receptionist was not even smiling like he was forced to do the check in. Also, while check out i was shocked about the room revenue service charges for all nights which is a hidden costs and not been captured in the booking. I tried to understand why is that and it was not even mentioned in the hotel policies.

Good

Breakfast was delicious but you should serve coffee in small pots, so the staff don't have to keep bringing refills one small cold cup at a time. The staff were cheerful and professional without exception.

I am disappointed that the hotel hosted the Petroleum Intelligence Forum meetings. As a point of principle I won't be staying with you in London again.
