The central characteristic elements of the Bayon temple are huge smiling faces made of large blocks of stone on 37 towers adorning all four sides.  Initially, there were 216 stone faces on 54 towers, of which around 200 remain today.

But the lack of size is compensated by the high level of detail in all of the carvings in the temple.  It is also significant as it is a major temple not built by a ruling king.

Unlike other structures, Ta Prohm has been left in the same condition in which it was found. It is surrounded by a thick jungle, making you feel like you have come to a lost world. Many shrubs, creepers, and moss conceal most of the temple corridors, making them impassable and giving the temple an ethereal look.

It is about 4 hours away from Siem Reap. It is popular for Banteay Chhmar temple, the fourth-largest Angkorian complex, and nine other satellite temples and reservoirs. These are one of the most significant ruins of the Angkorian period and classic examples of Khmer history and architecture.
