Niagara falls, possibly one of the most popular destinations in the US, if not the world, is located a couple of hours’ drive away from New York City and is essential on any visitor’s itinerary. 3 massive waterfalls along the US Canadian border make up Niagara Falls with the largest one, Horseshoe Falls, straddling the international border between the two countries.
Being the largest waterfall (by flow rate) in the Americas, Niagara falls is famous both as a tourist destination as well as for its hydroelectricity generating potential. Due to the large crowds it attracts, the area around Niagara Falls is fast becoming arts, culture and culinary hub with wineries, galleries and special interest activities on offer.
Adjacent to the waterfalls is the Niagara Falls State Park which also happens to be America’s oldest state park. A host of other activities like hiking, camping and river tours are also available and complement one’s visit to the falls.
