Sankeien Garden, Yokohama Overview
A garden assembled by a silk merchant who bought seventeen historic buildings from Kyoto, Kamakura and Gifu and had them dismantled and rebuilt here between 1906 and 1922. Ten are Important Cultural Properties, among them a three-storey pagoda dating to 1457. It reads as a garden and a compressed tour of Japanese architecture at the same time, which is why two slow hours beat a quick loop.
