Murugan Temple, Yelagiri Overview

Located on one of the highest peaks of the Yelagiri Hills, the Murugan Temple is among the most visited tourist places in Yelagiri. It is dedicated to Lord Murugan. Its location on the top of the hill gives the tourist a mesmerising view of the green valleys of Yelagiri.

Constructed in 1964, the temple's highlight is the statue of Lord Murugan and Valli in the form of Kuravan and Kurathi. Apart from Lord Murugan, there is a separate shrine for Lord Ganesha within the temple. Temple bells are placed at the top of the mountain. There is also a humongous statue of the mythological character, Ghatothgajan in the standing position, at the temple.

More on Murugan Temple

The bells on the mountaintop ring at a particular time in the entire day, which symbolises the movement of life and helps keep the rich culture alive. A large number of pilgrims come together to this temple to celebrate the Aadi Festival in the month of July.

Since it is not a very well-developed town, there are auto rickshaws and taxis available to hire. However, there are only a few taxis available for hire, so it is a great place for trekkers.
