Charvak Reservoir, Tashkent Overview

Charvak Reservoir is an artificial lake that was made in 1970 by building a dam to store the water of mountain rivers like Pskem, Kok-Su, and Chatkal. It is a popular day trip from Tashkent. Here you can indulge in swimming, hiking, paragliding, or simply bask in the fresh mountain air and witness unforgettable sunrises and sunsets. There are multiple beaches around the lake. Some of them are paid and fenced while others are open to the public.

The 100 km coastline around the lake is mostly occupied by recreation zones, boarding houses, and summer camps. Novyy Pyazh also known as the new beach, located on the southern side is the most popular public beach. The wellness center “Charvak Oromgokhi”, is the most popular attraction in the area. It offers boating and water scooter rides as well. The hiking trails in the area can lead up to waterfalls, caves, ravines, and walnut groves. Nearby Yusupkhona and Brichmula villages offer panoramic views of Big and Small Chimgan peaks and other rock mountains. Visit the caves in Khodjikent village to see hidden petroglyphs and other historical sights. You can also explore the Bogiston village, which is known for its scenic beauty and also holds historical significance as the birthplace of Sufi saints Sheikh Hovendi at-Tahur and Sheikh Ubaydulla Ahror, a renowned Sufi leader from the 15th century. On the way from Tashkent, you can also make stops to visit the almond groves and a teahouse “choykhana” where you can find a 600-year-old tree and paintings made by primitive people.
