State Museum of History of Uzbekistan, Tashkent Overview

Founded 136 years ago, the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan was formerly known as the Lenin Museum and is one of the oldest museums in Central Asia. The museum has four floors that showcase over 250,000 exhibits, including 60,000 archaeological, 80,000 numismatic, and 16,000 ethnographical items. The collection spans Uzbekistan's history from primitive times to the present day. Guided tours are available.

The first floor of the building hosts modern exhibitions that have various themes and are conducted periodically. The exhibits on the second floor are from ancient times to the Timurid era. These exhibits include tools, jewelry, and household items from different eras. The third floor captures the period of three khanates of Uzbekistan's history, namely Khiva, Kokand, and Bukhara. The fourth floor showcases Uzbekistan during the 19th and 20th centuries. These items include magazines and newspapers of Jadists, first theatre bills, films, and photos. A collection of medals of Uzbek champions won at different times in kurash, wrestling, and tennis are also exhibited. The museum also holds a well-preserved alabaster relief sculpture of Buddha and other artifacts that depict Buddhist art in the region, that were discovered in Fayaz Tepe, and other Buddhist sites in Termez, Uzbekistan. The museum has a gift shop where you can buy ceramic articles, miniatures, national fabrics, carpets, and various handmade items that are adorned by traditional Uzbek art.

In 2011, the museum opened a department called “Miracle World” for children. Various sections of this department ensure an interactive experience for children from ages 4 to 14. Here they can learn about the history and methods of making national ceramic dishes, learn to create paintings and miniatures, and play with ancient collections of dolls while also putting on puppet shows.
