Ritsurin Garden, Takamatsu Overview
Seventy-five hectares begun in 1625 and finished 120 years later, with six ponds, thirteen landscaped hills and around a thousand pines pruned by hand, set against the wooded slope of Mount Shiun. It is not counted among the three great gardens of Japan and it is widely held to be better than all of them. Give it two hours rather than one, and take the flat-bottomed boat across the South Pond if it is running.
