Sun Voyager, Reykjavik Overview

The Sun Voyager is considered one of the most remarkable sculptures located by the sea. The sculpture is composed entirely of steel and is reflective. Its shape resembles a boat or Viking ship, which was the sculptor's intention. Since it is right by the sea, it is scenic to look at and photograph.

Beyond the Sun Voyager, you can see Mount Esja across the water. Overall, it is an aesthetically pleasing place to visit. Jón Gunnar Árnason sculpted it in 1990, while the idea sprouted through a competition in 1986. He explained that the structure represented the presence of hope, freedom, and progress. He said it to be a sun ship that symbolized an undiscovered place. The structure is carved into granite and has a stainless steel finish. It looks more stunning when it reflects the bright colours of the sunset.
