Raj Bhavan, Raigad Overview

The king of Marathas, Shivaji administered his kingdom at the Raj Bhavan. The bhavan has a brilliant architecture marked by that time. It is constructed on a dual platform and has wooden columns on all four sides. Some other famous attractions include two huge water tanks where the members of royal families took a bath. The architecture of the Bhavan comprises of a modern toilet as well as a well-maintained drainage system. The Bhavan also consists of the major life events from the life of Shivaji.

The fort requires one to climb 1450 steps which take nearly 3 and half hours. One can experience the clouds and the rustling sound of the wind from the top of the fort. With the place becoming so much accessible, there is not much problem left with visiting the area.

Some other famous attractions include grenades depot, Bara Tanki which is a collection of a dozen water reservoirs, Wagh Darwaja, Rameshwar Mandir and Takmak Tok where the criminals were punished. All the sides of the fort look as if they have been carved out from solid rock.

Near the village Pachad, on the foothill of the fort lays the Chit Darwaja which is also known as Jit Darwaja. Khoob Ladha Barooj is another location where one reaches after walking for some time.

1. The best time to visit the place is during the months June to September and then from November to January.

2. One must go out on a family trip to the place and carry food package as well as water bottles on the way.

Raigad lies close to Mumbai and is well connected by roadways as well as railways. The nearest railway station is Mangaon. Take the route of NH-17 from Mumbai. Local transport too is readily available to reach there.
