Almost every place in this area has an incredible story behind it, making it a very sacred place. It was under this dried Peepal Tree that Nanakji meditated turning it green with his holy powers.
When once, Yogis saw him meditating in this inaccessible place especially in winters, they were filled with jealousy. In order to disturb him they tried to uproot the tree with their occult powers. As the tree started to pull out, Nanak Dev ji put his hands on the roots for the tree to be pulled out. Today, one can witness the roots of the tree above the ground. Almost a century later, Bhai Almast ji or Guru Har Gobind Sahib ji visited the place and Yogis in order to revenge him burnt down the tree. He restored the place as a holy shrine and by sprinkling saffron on the roots of the Peepal Tree brought it back to full bloom.
