According to legends, a malevolent evil known by the name of Sahasarjuna killed the sage Jamadagini and then attempted to abduct his wife, Goddess Renuka. Renuka threw herself into this lake to save herself from the wicked Jamadagini. Despite numerous attempts by many Gods and Goddesses to bring her out of the lake, Goddess Renuka decided to stay in the lake forever. After Goddess Renuka passed away, the Renuka Lake was formed.

After the festival of Diwali, in October or November, a fair is held on the bank of this lake. Saints from all across the nation visit the Renuka Lake especially during this fair to be a partaker in witnessing the holy assembly of the mother and son. A grand procession to the Parshu Ram Tal, a lake which is situated near the lake and is dedicated to Lord Parshuram, is organised at this time, wherein several idols of Lord Parshuram, as well as other deities, are carried in decorated palanquins. Renuka Lake is the perfect place for a day in the lap of nature. There is a set path around the lake. Walking along it was really satisfying, given the amount of flora and fauna all around. The air s (Read More)eemed extraordinarily fresh all around. At some places, there were sadhu-sants sitting and meditating, while some were narrating stories about the lake. The walk around the lake was a long one, but at the end of it, I was filled with vigour instead of being tired. This place is highly recommended for nature lovers.
