Catacombs of Milos, Milos Overview

The Catacombs of Milos are one of the oldest archaeological sites in Milos. The caves served as family burial chambers and Christian cemeteries in the Roman Era. It is located near the Tripiti village on Milos Island. There are three catacombs interconnected via corridors and a hallway. Only the second catacomb, the chamber of elders, is open to visitors.

Take a short hike from the mainland for a guided tour of the chambers, which lasts about 15 minutes. The Catacombs are estimated to have been constructed sometime between the late first and early second centuries. The underground space, constructed in the shape of a maze to shield the Christian site from Roman persecution, also served as a place of worship. Around Three hundred engraved graves are in the vaults within the catacombs. The Venetian Castle of Milos, the Ancient theatre of Milos, and Klima village are popular attractions near the Catacombs.
