Death Railway Museum, Mawlamyine Overview

Death Railway Museum is located at Thanbyuzayat, the last stop of the Burma-Siam railway close to Mawlamyine in Myanmar. It is infamous as the death railway because of the death of hundreds of thousands of locals and prisoners of war who died during the construction of this 415 km long railway line during World War II.

The museum has exhibits of the photographs, locomotive engines, journals and belongings of these people, along with the equipment. There is also a memorial dedicated to the workers in front of the railway track. The railway museum gives tourists an insight into the events around the construction of this railway line which stretches from Nong Pladuk in Thailand, over the Mae Klong river to Thanbyuzayat in Burma.
