Sunder Nagar, Mandi Overview

Sunder Nagar was formerly a Princely state known as Suket. The fascinating beauty of this small town is embraced by the man-made lake produced by the waters of Beas-Sutlej Project. This project is India's Biggest Hydel Project. It is known for its shady and high towering trees. The green beauty is perfect for a winter as well as summer get away. It might be a small town but visiting here will surely sooth your mind and soul.

The glory of its soil speaks of the traditional heritage of the place. The temples represent the rich culture of the area; the most visited being Mahamaya Temple. Sunder Nagar was once the jail of Mandi, but today it is a municipal council of the Mandi District.

Mahamaya Temple: Located on the hill top in the temple of the Mother Goddess. It is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year. It offers a panoramic view of the beautiful, elegant city.
Murari Devi Temple: The temple is on the most sacred hill of Sunder Nagar i.e. Murari Dhar. History says that the temple was built by Pandavas during their 'Agyatwas. It has rocks which are believed to have the footprints of the Pandavas.
Shukdev Vatika: There is an ancient cave in the garden dating back to Puranas. Legends say that Saint Sukhdev meditated at the place. The ancient cave leads to Haridwar, and it is believed that Rishi Sukhdev took a bath in the holy water of Ganges through the cave.
The Lake: The beautiful lake is a must visit attraction in Sunder Nagar. The lake reservoir lies in the heart of the town and is a part of BSL Project. The lake as made the small town more alluring as a tourist destination.

How To Reach Sunder Nagar

It is situated on National Highway 21 and is 125 km from Manali. Buses at regular intervals are available. Also, taxis on hire are also available.
