Kuala Selangor Nature Park, Kuala Selangor Overview

The Kuala Selangor Nature Park (KSNP) is one of the oldest and largest government established nature parks of the country. The park houses a secondary forest, a huge wetland area and an artificial lake.

This park provides a natural habitat and a balanced ecosystem to a huge variety of flora and fauna like the silver leaf monkeys, lion tailed macaques, different families of crabs and colourful fishes. Kuala Selangor Nature Park is also well known for its collection of indegenous medicinal plants and herbs whose fruits are exported around the globe.

This beautiful nature park also has a number of tourist activities such as Firefly watching, mangrove tree planting, bird watching and multiple photography points located high up on the watch-towers.

Walking Trails

Coastal Bund Trail: This trail is about 1.7 kilometers and takes about 2 hours to complete. It stretches around the artificial lake housed by the nature park and lets visitors get a beautiful view of the 156 breeds of birds residing in and around the area.

Langur Trail: This is the second longest trail with a total length of 1.1 kilometers but takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to complete and as the name suggests, it gives the visitors a unique opportunity to meet some of the macaques and langur monkeys residing on the trees flanking the trail.

Pangolin Trail: One of the shorter trails, it has a total length of only 1 kilometer. The trail takes about 45 to 50 minutes to complete, but offers a truly remarkable scenery to the visitors.

Egret Trail: The shortest trail, it is only half a kilometer long and takes no more than 35 minutes to cover. This trail looks absolutely magical during late afternoon when the sun starts to sink inside the Selangor River as it lights up the entire trail with a subtle orange light.

Attractions at Kuala Selangor Nature Park

Firefly Tour
This unique firefly tour along the Selangor River allows visitors to get a magical view of the shimmering fireflies residing in the Berembang Trees flanking both sides of the river. 
Ticket Price: RM 15 per person
Timings: The boat rides start from 7:00 PM with the last boat departing at 8:30 PM and each ride goes on for a duration of around 40 minutes.
Lake
The Kuala Selangor Nature Park has its very own 20 acre large man made lake which is one of the favourite locations for the birds to fly over to and to roost and wade around. The specially constructing nesting area right next to lake houses about 156 different breeds of birds at any given time of which about 58 belong to the category of migratory birds. While the surface of the lake is full of blossoming lotus flowers and water lilies, snails, prawns and tiny fishes reside within it. 
Visitors are permitted to follow the trail around the lake during the park timings only. The Bund Trail encircling the lake takes around 75 minutes to complete so make sure that you plan accordingly.
Mangrove Forest
The Kuala Selangor Nature Park has a beautiful ‘Mangrove Boardwalk’ flanked with dense mangrove forests on either sides which gives it a mystic appearance. 

Secondary Forest
Apart from the actual forest area covered by the Kuala Selangor Nature Park, it also has an attached ‘Secondary Forest’ which spreads over a huge area of 450 acres with numerous traversing paths and trails. This forest houses the families of the rare Silver leaf monkeys and the playful macaques along with a variety of indegenous medicinal shrubs and trees such as the Morinda Citrifolia tree, Betik and Hati Hati which treat high blood pressure and gastric problems amongst people of all age groups.

Watch Tower
There are about 3 to 4 watchtowers located at distinct locations inside the Kuala Selangor National Park. These watchtowers allow tourists to get a magnificent view of the lush green rainforest, the dense mangrove jungles and the calm sea where the sun sets into the horizon. 
Note: Some of the watchtowers might be closed due to renovation work at certain times of the year.

How to Reach Kuala Selangor Nature Park

Car: The best way to reach the Kuala Selangor Nature Park is to drive up to the destination in personal car. Either opt for the North South ExpressWay and head towards Kapar or head from Klong towards Kapar and head towards the Kuala Selangor from there. Both the journeys take about 80 minutes to cover.

Bus: Bus number 100 starting from the Medan Pasar bus stop will drop you off straight at the Kuala Selangor bus stop. The buses depart from the bus stop every 30 minutes starting from 6:30 AM up till 7:30 PM. The bus ticket costs about RM 9 per side and the bus ride takes about 2 hours per side. 
The second bus option is the Cityliner buses which depart from Klang Sentral and drop you off right at the last stop which is about 2 kilometers away from the Kuala Selangor Nature Park. The Cityliner bus ticket costs about RM 4.30 for a one way journey.

Need to Know

  • Kuala Selangor Nature Park is not disabled friendly, but there are trained forest authorities at special centers set up inside the park.
