Arappaleeswarar Temple, Kolli Hills Overview

The Arapaleeswarar temple is an ancient temple built by the Chola dynasty within the famous Kolli Hills of Tamil Nadu. It is considered as a popular place of worship for Lord Shiva all over South India. The outer walls of the sanctum are covered with incsriptions that prove the contributions of the Chola kings to this temple.

The lore here suggests that when the land was being ploughed to build the temple, blood began to gush out of something embedded in the Earth. Upon digging, they found a Shivalingam. This Shivalingam can also be seen at the temple even today. A statue dedicated to Nandi, Lord Shiva's vahana (vehicle) can also be seen here.
