To the immediate north of Haldwani lies Kathgodam, erstwhile called Chauhan Patta, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It is the gateway to Uttarakhand's popular tourist destinations like Nainital, Bhimtal, and Ranikhet. The town lies 554 meters above sea level, and is enclosed by scenic mountains and lush greeneries. It is primarily famous for fruit orchards and the two temples devoted to the Hindu deities Kali Chaud and Sheetla Devi.
