Dirang Dzong, Dirang Overview
Dirang Dzong, or the Dirang Fort, is a citadel which was said to have been built to protect Bomdila from neighbouring regions in the 17th century. It was then used as a prison during the world wars. Today it serves as a residential area for people from the Monpa community, with the settlement having outgrown the citadel's walls. Visitors can interact with the locals but must be respectful at all times. It is recommended to visit with someone who can be a guide or knows the local language.
