Located just outside the main village, this is perhaps Cappadocia's biggest tourist attraction. ItÍs a stunning clutter of churches, chapels and monasteries built into the rock.
This stunning complex dates back to the 10th century, when the region was a major religious centre. Today, the complex is visited by hundreds of thousands each year for the fascinating churches, adorned with beautifully painted frescoes along the walls. Within these, some notable ones include Yõlanlõ Kilise, Elmalõ Kilise, Karanlõk Kilise and the Tokalõ Kilise. All of these have several enchanting and colourful frescoes, and while some of them were ruined over the years, the others, like the ones in Karanlõk Kilise have been fully restored to all their glory.
