Honoured as one of the Q150 icons of Queensland, as part of the Q150 celebrations of 2009, and marked as the oldest and the largest koala sanctuary in the world, the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a 44-acre land located in the Fig Tree Pocket of Brisbane, Australia. It was founded in 1927 and is now a shelter for koalas, kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, Tasmanian devils, and other Australian species. Strict regulations ensure the safety and protection rights of the sole occupants-the wildlife.
Visitors can hold the koalas, feed, and pet the kangaroos for a fee. The entrance to the sanctuary is from a car park and the Brisbane river. The Riverside Cafe can serve as the eatery outlet overlooking the Brisbane river.
