Hanumangarhi, Ayodhya Overview

Located in Sai Nagar, Hanuman Garhi is a temple dedicated to the Hindu God, Hanuman. Since Hanuman was believed to be the protector of Ayodhya, this temple is constructed in a fortified design. Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti, which celebrate the birth of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman respectively, attract thousands of devotees to the Hanuman Garhi.

Built during the 10th century, this hilltop temple hones a 76-staircase pathway to the entrance. Housed within the panoramic view of the surrounding hills is a 6-inch-tall idol of Hanuman. The main temple cites an interior cave adorned with the numerous statues of Lord Hanuman along with his mother, Maa Anjani.

Festivals Celebrated at Hanuman Garhi

Being the land of Lord Rama, Ayodhya celebrates various Hindu festivals dedicated to both Ram and Hanuman. The main festivals that are celebrated with the utmost spirit of festivity in Ayodhya are Ram Navmi, Ram Leela, Diwali, Dusshera and Hanuman Jayanti. Diwali, Dussehra are celebrated in October or November depending on the new moon night.

Ram Navmi and Hanuman Jayanti are celebrated in April. You can also attend the Ram Navmi Mela in Ayodhya. During the period of various Hindu festivals, the temple is decorated and lighted with the numerous festival lights. The temple perched at a mountain top looks absolutely stunning during the festive season.

Tips For Visiting Hanuman Garhi

  • Take care while doing Deity darshan and beware of accidents as the 'murthis' are huge and bulky and avoid littering in the temple premises. 
  • Photography is not allowed inside the temple.
  • Carry your water bottles and eatables with you.

How To Reach Hanuman Garhi, Ayodhya

Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya has well-connected roadways, railways and airways. The Hanuman Garhi is about 8 to 10 km from the Ayodhya Airport in Faizabad; it is also known as the Faizabad Airport. The distance can be covered through an 18 to 30-minute taxi or self-drive. The Ayodhya Railway Station in Dharmakata is approximately 2 km from the temple.

Either a 10-minute drive or a 25-minute walk would suffice to reach the attraction. The Bus Stop at Ram Katha Park is the nearest, it is about 1.9 to 3 km away, which would be a half-hour walk or a 10-minute drive down. The bus stations in Faizabad and Rajkiya Uddyan Cantonment Road are about 11 km away.
