Roman Agoda, Athens Overview

The Roman Agora of Athens, situated to the north foot of the Acropolis is located near Ancient Agora. Constructed between 19 and 11 BCE, this is an ancient marketplace that served as a commercial and social hub during the Roman period. It is known for its well-preserved remnants of monuments like the Tower of the Winds and the Gate of Athena Archegetis.

Visitors can explore the intricate agora, adorned with columns and stoa, offering a glimpse into daily life in ancient Athens. Not functioning as a museum, the Roman Agora primarily showcases the architectural marvels of the Roman era. 1. Tower of the Winds

Built around the 2nd century, the Tower of the Winds is the world’s first meteorological station located in the Roman Agora in Athens. While touring the inside, you can see the original position (Read More) of the nine sundials, one large water dial or clepsydra, and a weather vane.
