Sky High, Aligarh Overview

Sky High is the only internationally recognised sky-diving drop zone in India. A foreign affiliate of United States Parachute Association (USPA), it the only commercial skydiving company in India. The participants are provided with a certificate and merchandise after successful completion of their dive.

There are specific guidelines that Sky High abides by. They provide the participants with a record of their fall shot on a video and/or camera. Sky High prioritises the safety of its participants over their zeal, and therefore, it is a mandatory measure to provide a medical certificate of the participants stating their fitness. This is followed by signature on legal documentation, training and finally the dive.

Best Time and Cost

Sky High provides a sky-diving experience for INR 27,500 with a video/camera shot of your jump, and INR 23,500 without them. Sky-diving is prohibited during heavy rains, hence the best time to engage in this sport is early/late winter and early summer.

What to Expect

Sky High makes its participant’s safety their priority. The process before the jump is equally essential and collectively harnessed upon by Sky High staff.

It can be extremely frustrating if the appointment for the jump on a particular day is tampered with fluctuations in weather. It can be postponed to any day ranging between one to seven, even more.

After the successful completion of an appointed day, the following procedure is undertaken:

·       Before arrival
A fitness certificate from a physician might be necessary, which states the physical fitness of the participant to participate in the sport safely. People with fluctuating blood pressure, vulnerability to heart diseases and high blood sugar content are prohibited from participating in the activity.

·       Arrival
The participant is supposed to arrive at the Sky High office in Aligarh strip where the Sky High India base is located. It is at a distance of 140 km from Delhi.

·       Legal documentation
There is a hefty bundle of documents that need to be signed by the participant stating their voluntary participation, and the risks and clauses for the dive. These documents thus exempt the trainee from alternate liabilities.

·       Training
During training, the participant is exposed to the various paraphernalia such as parachute bags, their in-built Automatic Activation Device (AAD) which would automatically fling the parachute open in case of an emergency, depending on the speed of wind and distance from the ground.

Participants are notified that all the equipment is taken to the nearest USPA approved rigging loft, which is in Dubai between fixed intervals of 180 days for regular ‘inspection, maintenance and reserve parachute repacking’.

Participants are also taught how to communicate using gestures in mid-air, and the position for free fall is practised.

·       Jumping from over 10,000 feet
After the training session that usually lasts for 40 minutes, participants are taken to the plane and flown to a distance of about 10,000 feet where the ‘drop zone’ is located. The plane’s doors are specifically engineered for sky-diving.

After the participant, tethered around the trainee, jumps from the footboard of the plane, there is a free fall of 30 seconds, which means that both the trainee and the participant are hovering mid-way, falling from the sky.

After that, the trainee pulls the parachute out whenever it seems feasible.

Things to keep in mind

In order to have a safe and healthy sky-dive experience, Sky High abides by strict rules and regulations as follows:

Physical Fitness
A medical certificate stating the physical fitness of the individual for the dive is mandatory. People weighing over 90 kg, or with fluctuating blood pressures, or a high blood sugar content are deemed unfit for the dive as it may pose a serious threat to their life.

Government ID proof
It is necessary to carry a government ID to sign up for life insurance.

Extra Jackets
Even though the participants are provided with jump-suits at the venue, it is necessitated to carry extra jackets because of the variation in temperature above ground level. This is especially mandatory during the winter season, because the temperature will be much lower in the air.

Dietary needs
Participants must have eaten a few hours before the jump. It requires a lot of energy, or else the individuals are prone to weakness.

Alcohol consumption one day before the dive is prohibited.

Being patient
Sky-diving is an activity highly dependent on climate change. Slight fluctuations in the weather may pose a threat to life, and so the appointments might be moved flexibly from one date to another. It is necessary to not let this overpower patience.
