Myth and History of Khereshwar Temple

As there is no clear evidence about the exact time and architect of this construction, the history of Khereshwar Temple has blended with Hindu Mythology over the years. Some people believe the temple to be erected during the Mughal era by Swami Haridas, the guru of Tansen. Other popular belief holds the temple to have been built by Raja Sati Prasad in memory of his wife. While some temple priests claim the Khereshwar temple to have existed since the Dvapara Yuga and that there is a mention of the Temple in the holy Vedas as well.

Best Time to Visit

The Khereshwar Temple usually remains crowded with hundreds of devotees every day, but on Maha Shivratri and in the Hindu month of Sawan, it is crammed with thousands of pilgrims. So if you want to avoid the jostle, you can visit the temple during the Autumn Season. Also, you can avoid visiting the temple on Monday because it is a day devoted to Lord Shiva and the queues are quite long.

How to Reach Khereshwar Temple

By Car: It will take you about 20 minutes by car from Aligarh Railway Station to reach the Khereshwar Temple.
By Taxi: As there are no buses available on that route, you will have to hire a local taxi.

Need to Know

A troop of monkeys reside near the Temple, and they hunt from tree to tree in search of any leftovers. The monkeys are harmless unless provoked. Visitors generally feed these monkeys and take pictures with them as well.
