Detailed Itinerary
- Morning/Afternoon: Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport. Drive to Kandy (approx. 3–3.5 hours).
- Activity: Stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage or a nearby open-air elephant sanctuary. This is an ideal break for children to see elephants bathing in the river.
- Visit the Gem Museum and Spice Garden.
- Evening: Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Afterward, watch a Kandyan Cultural Dance Performance, which features vibrant costumes and drumming that usually keeps young children engaged.
- Overnight: Kandy (1 Night)
- Morning: Depart for Nuwara Eliya (approx. 2.5 hours). The drive is scenic, passing through lush tea plantations.
- Activity: Stop at a Tea Factory and Plantation. You can take a short walk through the tea bushes and see how the world-famous Ceylon tea is processed.
- Visit Seeta Amman Temple and Asoka Vatika.
- Afternoon: Visit Gregory Lake. This is a great spot for the 5-year-old to enjoy a pony ride or a swan-shaped pedal boat. The cool climate and open green spaces at Victoria Park are also perfect for toddlers to burn off energy.
- Overnight: Nuwara Eliya (1 Night)
- Morning: Travel from the mountains down to the southern coast to Bentota (approx. 5 hours).
- Activity: On the way, you will pass St. Clair’s and Devon Falls, which offer beautiful photo opportunities without requiring long hikes.
- Afternoon: Arrive in Bentota and spend the rest of the day relaxing by the beach or pool. The calm waters of the Bentota lagoon are safer for small children than the open ocean.
- Overnight: Bentota (1 Night)
- Morning: Take a Madu River Boat Safari. This mangrove boat trip is exciting for kids as you can spot water monitors, birds, and visit 'Cinnamon Island.'
- Afternoon: Visit a Sea Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda. Children can see baby turtles in tanks and learn about conservation efforts before they are released into the ocean.
- Enjoy water sports.
- Evening: Enjoy a quiet sunset dinner on the beach.
- Overnight: Bentota (2 Nights)
- Morning: Depart for Colombo (approx. 1.5–2 hours via the Southern Expressway).
- Afternoon: City tour of Colombo. Visit Galle Face Green, a large open park by the sea where the kids can fly kites and enjoy the ocean breeze. Drive past the Lotus Tower, Gangaramaya Temple, and Independence Square.
- Evening: Visit a modern shopping mall like One Galle Face or Colombo City Centre, which have air-conditioned play areas and diverse food courts suitable for picky eaters.
- Overnight: Colombo (1 Night)
- Morning: Depending on your flight time, do some last-minute souvenir shopping at Laksala (for handicrafts) or Barefoot.
- Afternoon: Transfer to the airport (approx. 45 minutes via the expressway) for your departure.
