Day 1 Arrival in Phuentsholing - Thimphu
On arrival at Phuentsholing, after processing the entry permits, begin your scenic journey to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. En route, visit Kharbandi Gompa, a serene monastery that offers panoramic views of the Indian plains and surrounding mountains—perfect for photography. On reaching Thimphu, check into your hotel and spend the evening at leisure. You may take a stroll through the charming streets of Thimphu town. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Explore the cultural and modern fusion of Thimphu, Bhutan’s bustling capital. Visit the Buddha Dordenma, one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, located at Kuenselphodrang Nature Park. Head to the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the Third Druk Gyalpo and dedicated to world peace. At the Folk Heritage Museum, get insights into traditional Bhutanese life, followed by a visit to the Royal Textile Museum, which beautifully showcases Bhutan’s weaving culture. Stroll through the Authentic Bhutanese Crafts Market for handmade souvenirs and observe local life at Clock Tower Square, the city’s vibrant center. In the evening, visit Kaja Throm, a modern market and recreational park with food stalls, dinosaur models, and occasional cultural shows. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
After a leisurely breakfast, drive to Punakha, a region rich in Bhutanese history. En route, stop at the Dochula Pass, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas and 108 chortens. Visit the Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple, with a scenic walk through Mesina village. Upon reaching Punakha, explore the stunning Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful and historically significant fortresses in Bhutan. End the day with a walk on the Punakha Suspension Bridge, the second-longest in the country, offering views of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers. Overnight stay in Punakha.
Drive to the beautiful glacial valley of Phobjikha, often called the “Mini Switzerland of Bhutan” for its sweeping green meadows and serenity. Visit the hilltop Gangtey Monastery, a seat of the Nyingmapa school and the Pema Lingpa tradition. At the Black-Necked Crane Centre, learn about the rare birds that migrate to this valley every winter. In the evening, enjoy a walk around the valley and interact with the warm locals—this is a perfect chance for some memorable photography. Overnight stay in Phobjikha.
After breakfast, depart for Paro via the picturesque Pelela Pass, located at 3,423m. If the skies are clear, enjoy views of Jomolhari, Jichu Drake, and Kang Bum peaks. En route, make a photo stop at Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s oldest fortress. Upon arrival in Paro, visit the National Museum, housed in an ancient watchtower displaying artifacts, weaponry, and textiles. Then proceed to the Rinpung Dzong, a remarkable example of Bhutanese architecture. Overnight stay in Paro.
Today, take a scenic drive to Chele La Pass, the highest motorable road in Bhutan. From here, on a clear day, enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Jomolhari and the Paro and Haa Valleys. The area, adorned with fluttering prayer flags, is perfect for photography and spiritual reflection. In the evening, relax or explore another Kaja Throm market in Paro, inaugurated on 13th October 2022, featuring food stalls, local crafts, and a festive atmosphere. Overnight stay in Paro.
After breakfast, embark on a memorable hike to Taktsang Lhakhang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), Bhutan’s most iconic landmark. Clinging to a sheer cliff 900m above the Paro Valley, this sacred site is believed to have been blessed by Guru Padmasambhava. The hike, though challenging, offers immense spiritual and scenic rewards. In the evening, drive back to Phuentsholing. Overnight in Phuentsholing or continue as per your travel plan.
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Bagdogra. Tour ends with warm memories of Bhutan’s tranquility, culture, and hospitality.

Mr. Bharat Gurung, the owner of Asia Valleys Tours and Travels, was very supportive and responsive. He stayed in touch during the planning stage, clarified all details properly, and made sure everything was aligned before the trip started. Even during the trip, he was reachable and checked in when needed, which made things feel more reliable. A big part of what made this trip so enjoyable was our guide, Sangay, and our driver, Dechen. His driving was safe and smooth, even on the winding mountain roads, which made the journeys between destinations very comfortable. What truly stood out was the warmth, respect, and positivity both Sangay and Dechen brought to the trip. They were not just guide and driver, but became an important part of the journey—making it fun, stress-free, and filled with good moments. Their coordination and support throughout ensured that everything ran seamlessly. Overall, the trip was a perfect mix of scenic beauty, cultural experiences, and genuine hospitality.
