Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner featuring authentic Nepalese cuisine, introducing you to the country's rich food culture.

After breakfast, attend a pre-trip meeting with your guide. Then, embark on a sightseeing tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including:
  • Boudhanath Stupa – One of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world.
  • Pashupatinath Temple – A sacred Hindu temple along the Bagmati River, where you can observe Hindu rituals and ceremonies.
  • Bhaktapur Durbar Square – A historic plaza featuring pagoda-style temples, the 55-Window Palace, and ancient artwork.

Take an early 35-minute flight to Lukla (2,804m), enjoying breathtaking views of the Himalayas. After meeting the trekking team, descend towards the Dudh Koshi River and follow the trail to Phakding (2,610m), passing through Ghat village (2,550m). Overnight in Phakding.

After breakfast, begin your trek towards Namche Bazaar, known as the Gateway to Everest. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. Along the way, enjoy a breathtaking view of Mt. Thamserku from Benkar village. Enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, then continue through Jorsale, the last village before Namche Bazaar. The trail ascends steeply, but as you approach Namche, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Kusum Kanguru, and Kwangde. Spend the night in Namche Bazaar.

Acclimatization is essential to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Take a short hike to the Sherpa Museum, where you can learn about Everest’s first climbers and Sherpa culture. A trek to Syangboche Airport (3,780m) offers panoramic views of Khumbu peaks and a stunning sunrise and sunset experience. You can also hike to the Everest View Hotel (3,880m), which offers incredible vistas of Everest and its neighboring peaks. The rest of the day can be spent exploring Namche Bazaar, home to quality restaurants, shops, bakeries, internet cafés, and money exchange services.

Leave Namche behind and follow the Gokyo trail. Trek through Kyanjuma, and from Sansa, continue along the route towards Gokyo. The trail descends to the Dudh Koshi River, followed by an ascent through rhododendron and conifer forests before reaching Phortse Thanga (3,680m). Keep an eye out for Musk Deer and Himalayan Thar along the way. The trail also passes through Yak Kharkas (Yak grazing pastures) and summer settlements. Views of Khumbi La and Tawache peaks dominate the landscape. Overnight in Phortse.

Today’s trek takes you through forests, waterfalls, and suspension bridges before arriving at Dole (4,200m). Cross a bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and continue through Luza village. You may encounter Himalayan Thar and Musk Deer as you make your way towards Machhermo (4,470m). Here, you have the opportunity to visit the Himalayan Rescue Hospital, where you can learn about altitude sickness, its symptoms, prevention, and treatment.

Ascend from Machhermo, enjoying spectacular views of the Dudh Koshi Valley and mountains such as Kantega, Thamserku, and Cho-Oyu. As you near the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal, the valley opens up. The trail passes the first Gokyo Lake, and along the way, you will come across a sacred spot with footprints believed to be those of a Lama (Buddhist priest). Arrive at Gokyo (4,790m) and explore Dudh Pokhari, the stunning turquoise third Gokyo Lake. Overnight in Gokyo.

An early morning steep climb to Gokyo Ri (5,483m) rewards you with one of the best panoramic views in the Everest region. Witness a mesmerizing sunrise over Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho-Oyu, as well as a stunning view of Ngozumpa Glacier. After returning to Gokyo, explore the fourth and fifth Gokyo Lakes, enjoying the pristine and isolated beauty of the region. Overnight stay in Gokyo.

After an unforgettable experience at Gokyo Ri, descend towards Dole following the same trail. Enjoy the last glimpses of the Gokyo Lakes and Ngozumpa Glacier before reaching the village. Overnight in Dole.

Continue the descent towards Namche Bazaar, passing through Khumjung village, which is home to the Hillary School and a monastery that houses a Yeti scalp. As you walk away from the towering peaks, take time to reflect on the journey. Enjoy another night in Namche.

Retrace your steps back to Lukla, crossing the Dudh Koshi River multiple times via suspension bridges. Pass through the villages of Monjo, Jorsale, and Phakding before reaching Lukla, where you can celebrate the completion of your trek with your team.

Take an early morning flight to Kathmandu and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. You can explore Thamel, shop for souvenirs, or relax at a café. In the evening, attend a farewell dinner, to celebrate your successful trek.

A representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport, bidding you a warm farewell and wishing you a safe journey to your next destination.

Gokyo Valley Trek, also known as Gokyo Ri and Gokyo Lakes Trek, is a classic Himalayan adventure offering breathtaking views of towering peaks, including Cho Oyu, Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and the vast Ngozumpa Glacier. The shimmering Gokyo Lakes enhance the beauty of the journey, making the trek an unforgettable experience. As the trail ascends towards Namche Bazaar, the tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest, appears to grow taller with every step. One of the most striking features of this trek is the massive ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyachung, located in the Khumbu region.

The journey begins upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, followed by a welcome dinner organized to introduce trekkers to Nepali cuisine and culture. Before heading to the trekking region, a guided sightseeing tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Patan Durbar Square offers cultural insights into Nepal’s rich heritage.

The Journey to Gokyo Valley
The trek starts with a thrilling 35-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, offering breathtaking aerial views of the Himalayas. Upon landing at Lukla Airport, the real adventure begins as trekkers gradually ascend through Sherpa villages and lush landscapes. Staying in local teahouses along the way allows for an immersive experience of the Sherpa lifestyle, culture, and traditions.

The trail winds through Sagarmatha National Park, passing rhododendron forests, suspension bridges, and traditional mountain settlements before reaching the vibrant trading hub of Namche Bazaar. A well-planned acclimatization day in Namche helps trekkers adjust to the increasing altitude. The journey then continues through scenic valleys, alongside glacial rivers, and toward the pristine Gokyo Lakes, with stunning views of Everest and other Himalayan giants.

A highlight of the trek is the climb to Gokyo Ri, standing at 5,483 meters. The summit provides an unrivaled panoramic view of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu, along with the Ngozumpa Glacier and the dazzling turquoise Gokyo Lakes below. After soaking in the breathtaking scenery, the trek retraces its steps back to Namche Bazaar and Lukla, before flying back to Kathmandu.

The Gokyo Valley Trek is an ideal alternative for those who wish to explore the Everest region without the physical demands of reaching Everest Base Camp or crossing high-altitude passes. For trekkers aiming to set foot at the base camp of the world's tallest peak, the Everest Base Camp Trek is a perfect choice. For those seeking a more adventurous challenge, the Everest High Passes Trek offers the opportunity to conquer multiple mountain passes in the region.
