Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Day 1: Arrive Bagdogra/NJP and Transfer to Phuentsholing
  • Arrive at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station and transfer to Phuentsholing, Bhutan.
  • The town of Phuentsholing serves as the gateway for travelers entering Bhutan by road.
  • Phuentsholing is a thriving commercial center located on the northern edge of the Indian plains in West Bengal, directly at the foothills of the Himalayas.
  • This town is a fascinating mixture of Indian and Bhutanese cultures, exemplifying the mingling of people and their traditions.
  • In the evening, as time permits, visit Zangtho Pelri, a small temple situated in the city center that represents the heaven of Guru Rinpoche.
  • Later, explore the town and market of Phuentsholing.
  • Overnight stay at the hotel in Phuentsholing. (Altitude: 300m)

After breakfast, embark on an interesting journey to Thimphu en route visiting Kharbandi Gompa, the beautiful monastery founded in 1967 by Royal Grand mother, Ashi Phuntsho Choedron.
On arrival, in Thimphu check-into the hotel. The capital town of Bhutan and the centre of Government, religion and commerce.
Evening an exploratory walk around Thimphu city centre.

  • After breakfast, visit the following points:
    Memorial Chorten. Also known as Thimphu Chorten
    Afterwards visit to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang). It holds one of the largest Buddha’s statue in the country of 169 feet (51.5m), made of bronze and gilded in gold.
    Later drive to upper Motithang in Thimphu to visit Takin Preserve. The Takin is the national animal of Bhutan, and looks like a cross between a cow and a goat.
    Also visit Simply Bhutan Museum where you can have a glimpse of day to day lifestyle of a common Bhutanese folk. You can try your hand at Archery, taste traditional Butter Tea-“SUJA”, sip locally-brewed hooch-“Ara” or even have a sumptuous Traditional Bhutanese Lunch.
    Post lunch, sightseeing in Thimphu valley including visit to the following:
    Zilukha Nunnery.
    The Institute for Zorig Chusum(commonly known as the Painting School)
    Sangaygang View Point
    Folk Heritage Museum
    Conclude the day’s sightseeing with visit of Trashichhoedzong, or ‘the fortress of the glorious religion’.
    Evening at leisure in Thimphu city centre.

After breakfast, drive up to Dochu-la pass (3,088m/ 10,130 ft) stopping briefly here to take in the view and admire the chorten, mani wall, and prayer flags which decorate the highest point on the road.
On arrival check into the hotel.
Afternoon visit Punakha Dzong or ‘Palace of Great Happiness or Bliss,
After exploring Punakha city centre, embark on a short walking excursion to Chimi Lhakhang. Also known as Fertility temple,
Also visit the popular Suspension Bridge which provides a stunning sight for beautiful selfies and pictures. You can also go for an exciting White River Rafting for an adrenaline Rush.
Overnight at the hotel in Punakha & Wangdue. (Altitude 1,300m)

After Breakfast drive to Gangtey through dramatic landscapes of terraced farmland, deep river valleys and precariously perched farmhouses.  A few kilometers beyond the Gangtey Monastery, on the valley floor lies the village of Phobjikha.
From Gangtey Monastery, hike through Gangtey Natural Trail (1.5hrs). This is the most beautiful and shortest of the existing nature trails in Bhutan.  Then explore Phobjikha Valley, one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in the Himalayas and the winter place for the endangered Black Necked Cranes. Travelling November through March shall give you the rare opportunity to see the black necked cranes.
Overnight at the hotel in Punakha & Wangdue. (Altitude 1,300m)

After breakfast drive back to Paro descending back down from Dochu La.
En route visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress of the country.
Later in the day after checking into hotel, proceed to visit Ta Dzong, originally built as Watchtower, which now houses National Museum.
Then walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, meaning (“fortress of the heap of jewels”), which has a long and fascinating history. 

Evening take a stroll around interesting city centre of Paro .
Overnight at the hotel in Paro. (Altitude 2,280m)

After breakfast a hiking excursion to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) (approx. 5 hours round trip walk. The hike to the monastery makes a splendid half day excursion.
While return to the hotel, along the way, visit the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang.
You can also go for a traditional Hot Stone Bath, believed to contain remedial and healing properties which is particularly a great way to rejuvenate your body and mind after a tiring hike of Tiger’s Nest.
Overnight at the hotel in Paro. (Altitude 2,280m)

After early breakfast at the hotel, drive to Phuentsholing. Your tour guide will help you with the exit formalities and drive further to Bagdogra Airport/NJP for your onward destination.
