- In Katra, for Pithu, Palki, or Pony services, the Municipal Committee Katra has fixed the rates, which are displayed on the rate card outside their booking office at Banganga. If someone is overcharging above the listed rates, it’s up to you to negotiate as much as possible.
- If you are staying at a houseboat in Srinagar, Shikara rides are complimentary, so do not pay for them.
- It is not mandatory for guests to take ponies in Gulmarg and Pahalgam to visit all the important tourist spots, as the major attractions are within close proximity and can be walked to. However, if you still wish to take a pony ride, sledge, or raft, the rates are highly negotiable. Please bargain as much as possible.
- Sightseeing to Aru Valley, Betaab Valley, and Chandanwari in Pahalgam is only accessible by the local taxi union. Due to union restrictions, outside vehicles cannot enter these places. The rates are highly negotiable if you wish to visit these places, and you will need to pay extra directly.
- For shopping, recommended items include dry fruits, Rajma, Basmati rice, handicrafts, woolens, carpets, saffron, and cricket bats. In Srinagar, Lal Chowk and Boulevard are the best places for shopping.
- For Kashmiri Wazwan food, Aadhoos at Lal Chowk in Srinagar is the best place, and the mutton kebab at Gee Enn Bakers on Residency Road is highly recommended.
- For vegetarian food in Srinagar, Krishna Dhaba is the best place.
