Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Samburu National Reserve

Your professional safari guide for this safari will meet you at your hotel or residence.
After a briefing, you will head to the jewel of the North, Samburu Game Reserve.
Arrive in time for lunch.
Later in the afternoon, we will head out for our first game drive in search of African elephants, leopards, lions, and the African sunset.
Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

Day 2 Full Day at Samburu National Reserve

A tailored game drive to maximize your time and opportunity to explore Samburu National Reserve.
Enjoy watching elephants wallowing in the brown waters of the Ewaso Nyiro River.
Observe Reticulated giraffes dotting the landscape.
Spot the spear-horned oryx, giraffe antelope, gerenuk, endangered Grevy's zebra, and unique Somali ostrich, which are some of Samburu's highlights.
Experience one of the best places to see the beautiful spotted cat, the leopard, as well as birds of prey, the Somali bee-eater, beautiful woodpeckers, and cheetahs.
The area is named after the beautiful Samburu people who have coexisted with this amazing wildlife for ages.
Visit a cultural village to experience some of Kenya's diverse culture.

Day 3 Samburu to Ol Pejeta Wildlife Conservancy

Drive early in the morning to the Mt. Kenya region to arrive at the conservancy.
Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Optional night game drives to see nocturnal animals can be arranged at an extra cost.
Sweetwater's is the only sanctuary in Kenya for the rehabilitation of widely abused chimpanzees, with two groups living in an environment as close to their natural habitat as possible.
The site is also a dedicated black rhino breeding area.
It is home to the fastest-growing population of rhinos in Africa.
There are southern white rhinos, about 80 endangered black rhinos, and in a special sanctuary, there are two of the world's last remaining northern white rhinos.
Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

Day 4 Ol Pejeta to Lake Nakuru National Park

We leave after breakfast and proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park.
After approximately 5 hours, we arrive and start our game drive in this awe-inspiring park.
We search for both black and white rhinos, lions, and antelopes, and visit the shorelines to see flamingos and pelicans.
The diverse ecosystem of Lake Nakuru offers a spectacular introduction to the abundance of nature in East Africa.
Lunch and dinner will be at the lodge.

Day 5 Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara National Reserve

Depart from Nakuru early in the morning.
Travel to the Masai Mara with several stops along the way.
Arrive at the Mara in time for lunch.
Embark on an evening game drive in search of the big cats of the Masai Mara, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, and other species.
The Masai Mara National Reserve offers unrivaled opportunities for big cat sightings.
Return to the camp/lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 Full Day at Masai Mara National Reserve

We have a very flexible itinerary, and game drives are tailored to your interests with our experienced professional safari guide.
An early morning game drive with a picnic breakfast increases your chances of witnessing the sunrise and observing animals while they are still active.
The morning serenity is indescribable; you simply have to experience it.
Explore the spotted savannah with its diverse landscapes to capture beautiful animals with your camera.
The Mara River, where river crossings occur in July, August, and September, is the main water body winding through this paradise.
Hippopotamuses and Nile crocodiles call this area home, making it the best place in the reserve to catch a glimpse of them as they bask on the riverbanks.
Other rivers include the Talek River and smaller tributaries like the Sekenani River.
The Sand River is another picturesque area in the Masai Mara, located right at the border with the endless plains of the Serengeti.
Our safari guide will explain more about nature as it unfolds right in front of you, helping you capture the best angles for that perfect shot!
After a fulfilling adventurous day, you will retire to your strategically located safari camp or lodge for a sumptuous dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7 Masai Mara to Nairobi

After breakfast, we will drive back to Nairobi.
You will arrive by early evening.
You will be transferred to your Nairobi hotel, residence, or the airport.

Pricing is based on a per person basis, with a minimum of 2 people traveling together.
Each traveler must have a valid visa.

Cancellation Policy

All bookings made with the company are subject to these terms.

1. Payment, Cancellation, and Refund Policy

You will need to pay a deposit of at least 40% of the booking value for the booking to be confirmed. Please note that the deposit amount varies based on the tour type and will be communicated to you before making the booking.
Once the booking is accepted by us, we will send you a booking confirmation email with the voucher, which will serve as a contract between us from the date we send the confirmation. All details about the balance payment due before the departure date will be mentioned in the booking voucher. If this balance is not paid on or before the due date, we reserve the right to cancel the booking.
In case of cancellations, the following charges will apply on the amount paid:

45% if cancelled between 60 and 45 days prior to arrival
60% if cancelled between 44 and 30 days prior to arrival
100% if cancelled 30 days and 24 hours prior to arrival

2. If You Change Your Booking

After your booking has been confirmed, should you wish to make any changes to your itinerary or request an earlier departure date, we will make every effort to accommodate your requests based on availability. However, there may be additional costs involved to accommodate your request. These costs are in addition to the fee quoted for your initial safari. Normal cancellation fees apply if you wish to postpone your departure.

We just came back from our second safari trip with James of Wild Portraits Safari. We had the greatest possible experience during our 9 day-trip from Amboseli (Kenya), to Tarangine, Ngorongoro, Sereng (Read More)eti (Tanzania) and then to the Mara in Kenya. The full trip was well organized and included so many highlights: beautiful sights, the landscapes, the wildlife, James' ability to find the quiet spots with magnificent viewing, great accommodations, breakfast in the Mara, horseback riding amongst buffalo, hyena and giraffes, and of course James' great company, his care for his guests and his drive to make the full experience perfect. We are already planning our next visit and will certainly travel with James again. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a fantastic vacation.

I have been on multiple photography tours, both to Africa and other places, and let me just say that the photography tour that I just took with Wild Portraits Safaris (WPS) ranks up there with the bes (Read More)t of the best. Everything about the trip was simply spot on perfect. From the very beginning communications, through a need for me to reschedule (my own fault, not theirs), through to the final minutes of the tour...everything was smooth, easy, well-communicated and perfectly executed. I went to Amboseli, Lake Naivashu, and the Mara. I was set up in great accommodations, with special consideration on making sure that we were able to get out into the field in the shortest amount of time. A few things that set WPS apart from other tours. First is the ability to personalize the tour to your interests. Unlike other safari tours with set schedules and specifically timed-itineraries, just let James, the owner/driver/ tour guide, know your interests and he'll continually plan and look out for opportunities and present options to you. For me, he knew I was interested in experiencing as much as possible, so he made sure that we had all day game drives while in the Mara. Second is the fact that James is an excellent photographer, himself. That means that he is constantly looking for the perfect lighting, angle, and composition to hep you get your best photos. Third, you cannot find any tour guide with as much passion for his job. This has led him to learn as much as possible about the land, the conservation efforts, the animals and how all of the factors integrate with each other. Each day wasn't just a photo tour: each day was an immersive learning experience. You definitely can't find a tour company that tries as hard as WPS to make sure that you get every ounce of opportunities in the short time that you are there. For instance, he added an impromptu visit to Nairobi National Park, because I had a lot of extra time before my outbound flight. And lastly, James is an extremely nice person. If you go on safari with WPS, you'll leave with tons of photos, memories, and a friend. I've already planned my next trip with WPS.
