Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi To Amboseli National Park

Today, you will be picked up from the airport or your accommodation in Nairobi by our company representative. After a brief introductory session, you will be handed over to your driver-guide to begin your safari towards Amboseli National Park. You will arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. After lunch, you can enjoy the camp's facilities and activities before embarking on your first afternoon game drive, returning to your lodge or hotel at sunset.

Amboseli National Park is renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest freestanding mountain in the world and the highest peak in Africa at 5,895 meters. The park is also an elephant paradise, where large populations of African savanna elephants roam from swamp to swamp, grazing throughout the day. The observation hill provides stunning views of the mountain peak and the park’s plains and swamps. The varied wildlife in the park includes giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, wildebeest, buffalo, and many more.

Leave the camp after breakfast, carrying your packed lunch to enjoy in the wild. Spend the whole day exploring the marshlands and swamps of Amboseli, which are fed by subterranean water channels. Water is abundant throughout the year, as is the pasture. Elephants and various other herbivores can be found here. After a long day of exploration in this 392 km² park, you will return to the lodge late in the afternoon.

Alternatively, you can start the day with an early morning game drive to search for animals when they are most active. Then return to the lodge for a relaxed breakfast and lunch.

During the hottest part of the day, take some time to relax in camp. You can read your favorite book, write about the safari in your journal, or listen to your favorite music while observing the birds. Don’t worry; the animals will be resting too! In the afternoon, head out again at 16:00 for another drive through the park. Return to the lodge at sunset for dinner and overnight.

After enjoying an early breakfast, you will depart from Amboseli National Park and drive towards Nairobi. Along the way, there will be a stop at the renowned Carnivore Restaurant or Tamarind for lunch. Next, you will visit the spectacular Great Rift Valley viewpoint, where you can stretch your legs and capture photos of the contrasting landscapes, including Mount Longonot and Mount Suswa. Following this, you will continue on to the Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort (or a similar venue).

In the afternoon, you have the option to take a boat ride, offering a refreshing experience as you explore the diverse birdlife and wildlife around the lake. Alternatively, you can choose to relax by the poolside in preparation for a busy day filled with outdoor activities the following day.

Please note that the activities mentioned above are not included in the price and are optional. Payment for these activities should be made directly to the suppliers.

Get ready for a day filled with outdoor activities! After breakfast, pack your belongings and head to a nearby animal sanctuary for a walking safari. Alternatively, you can visit Crescent Island, where the animals are less wary of humans, allowing you to take pictures up close.

After exploring the sanctuary, drive to Hell's Gate National Park (Optional). You can choose to cycle, walk, or drive through the park, as it is one of the few national parks that permit these activities. Following this adventure, enjoy lunch before setting off for Lake Nakuru. You will arrive in the late afternoon and have a game drive on your way to your lodge, which is located within the park.

After having breakfast, you will begin your first early morning game drive. Despite the early start, morning game drives are incredibly rewarding, as you can spot animals when they are most active. Lake Nakuru is home to flamingos, black and white rhinos, lions, leopards, buffalo, and the endangered Rothschild's giraffe. The southern end of the lake is the best place to observe wildlife.

Following the game drive, you will exit the park and return to the lodge for lunch (you can choose to carry picnic lunch boxes if you prefer). After lunch, you will drive through the Rift Valley floor to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by Maasai warriors who will escort you on a cultural walking safari, including a visit to a Maasai village to learn more about the community that has coexisted with the Mara wildlife for centuries. You will return later in the day.

This is a full day spent game viewing across the rich tree-studded grassland and rolling hills of the famous "Eighth Wonder of the Animal World". The Mara is renowned for its great herds of plains game animals like leopards, Cheetahs & Lions. It also has numerous Elephants and virtually every other type of wildlife to be found in Kenya. You will have a full-day game drive in Masai Mara National Reserve.

Your lunch today is picnic lunch boxes in the savannah under a flat-top acacia tree while watching the animals grazing. Continue with the game viewing route to your camp, arriving late in the afternoon after thoroughly exploring this massive grassland savannah measuring 1,500sq km.

You have a balloon ride today, which takes off early in the morning. After landing, the crew helps you out of the basket and escorts you to a lovely setting for a bush breakfast. It is a lifetime experience.

After a leisurely breakfast, you will check out of your lodge, pack your belongings, and drive back to Nairobi. Along the way, you may choose to visit the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi, where you can get up close to this gentle and endangered Rothschild's giraffe. Here, you will have the opportunity to feed them and learn more about these magnificent creatures.

After your visit, you will proceed to your respective hotel or the airport, marking the end of your safari adventure.

Depending on your homeward flight departure time, you will coordinate your departure from Masai Mara with your driver-guide.

Our Camptrek Safari through Kenya and Tanzania provided so many wonderful sights and experiences that will stay with us forever. From elephants mating and Kilimanjaro at Amboseli NP, to close up rhino (Read More)'s at Lake Nakuru, to the lions and feasting hyena's in the Masai Mara, to witnessing the extraordinary wildebeest great migration in the Serengeti, along to the spectacular Ngorongoro crater, and then finally to Zanzibar and the magical Stone Town. What a trip!! Our guides Pilipili (Kenya) and Eliud (Tanzania) were not only really knowledgeable but also very engaging and great company. The optional hot air balloon ride in the Serengeti was great although we were hoping the balloon would have gone to higher elevations. The walking tour in Stone Town was fascinating and although the spice plantation tour in Zanzibar was interesting the constant pressure to put your hand in your pocket got tiresome. The lodge accommodation throughout the safari was brilliant. We highly recommend Camptrek Safaris - enjoy your adventure!

"Mal d'Africa" (longing for Africa) is our feeling (myself and my son) after this experience. We felt (and we're still feeling) a deep emotional connection and desire to experience (back) the continen (Read More)t of Africa, its culture, and its landscapes. It think it's linked to a variety of factors: personal experiences, cultural heritage, romanticized view of Africa. An intense and profound nostalgia felt during and after our jurney and wish to return. it's an emotional and spiritual feeling, difficult to explain clearly: - a strong desire to return to the places visited, to relive the emotions felt and to immerse oneself again in African culture. - a sense of inadequacy and impatience in resuming our daily routine after having lived the African experience - images, colours, sounds and smells of Africa suddenly resurface, creating a sense of nostalgia and desire. ALL the above is absolutely linked, inextricably to our Camptrek Safari team, our "guardian angels", Augustine and Last. They were just perfect in every respect, professional, empathy, knowledge of the populations, animals, history and parks: I really do not know how many questions, experiences... and also jokes we've shared with them. I will never forget the moments of great emotion that I saw my son experience, on his faces, his eyes, his tears: all of this will remain with us forever, in our memories (or better... until next adventures with them! :-)) We would like to thank Petite Margaret as well: she's been simply perfect in guide us at the time of drawing the jurney (10 days: Mombasa - Tsavo East - Amboseli - Tsavo West - Taita Hills - Diani Beach - Mombasa) and supporting us for any kind of info/doubts/also fears we faced during the booking. CAMPTREK GUYS: THANKS FOR ALL and... AFRICA IS A FEELING, YES!
