Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Day 1 Nairobi to Amboseli National Park (Approx. 5hrs).

Begin your journey with an early morning departure from Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi and head south. Enjoy scenic stops for photography and coffee breaks along the way. We arrive in time for lunch at the Camp or Lodge. After relaxing from the 4 to 5-hour drive, we embark on our first game drive looking for elephants and any interesting creative setup. We end the evening with silhouette photography as the sun goes down and watching the Mount Kilimanjaro with animals in the fore ground.

For a full day game drive, we will leave the Camp either with both packed Breakfast and lunch or have hot breakfast first thing in the morning and carry packed lunch, spend the day exploring the wonderful Amboseli national park. We search for cheetahs, lions, big herds of elephants which are the main highlights of this beautiful park. In the swamps that are fed water by the Mount Kilimanjaro there is prolific birdlife as well, hippos zebras gnus and a variety of gazelles and antelope. Amboseli offers one of the best elephant safari experiences as huge herds move into and out of the park in the morning and in the evening giving you perfect opportunities of elephant and Mount Kilimanjaro photography. Dinner and overnight stay at the Lodge or similar.

We Leave Amboseli early in the morning and head to Lake Naivasha. We make a stop at the East African section of the great rift valley view point. It is a geologic wonder of the world. A fracture on the earths in the earth’s surface. Enjoy views of a stratovolcano, Mount Longonot, with an 8x12 km caldera is quite a sight to behold. Drive on further past the small Italian catholic church built in 1942 during the second world war, the Italians were prisoners of war and Kenya at that time was still a British colony until 1963. We arrive in time for lunch then later after a brief rest head out for the afternoon’s activities. We begin with the boat ride, about one hour in the only fresh water lake in the Kenyan rift valley that is home to hippos and over 400 bird species. Get pied kingfishers in action, the African fish eagle busy looking for the all-important protein source, the fish. Common carp is the most common fish here. Later we go out for a nature walk depending on your preference at the crescent island. Later on, return to the relaxing ambience of the lodge or similar for dinner and overnight.

After taking breakfast at the lodge, you will carry packed lunch. You will head out to the Hell’s Gate National Park tucked deep into the floor of the Great Rift Valley, standing between 2187 and 1560 meters above sea level. Here you do bike riding as you explore the hells gate national park, walk amongst giraffes’, zebra’s and warthog “Pumba”. Visit and explore the hells gate gorge as you examine obsidian rocks and hot springs in the gorge. You will also have the chance to watch different kinds of bird species, take part in Rock climbing and Hiking. Later on, head to Lake Nakuru and arrive in time for dinner and overnight.

For a full day game drive, we will leave the Camp after hot breakfast first thing in the morning and carry packed lunch, spend the day exploring the wonderful Lake Nakuru National Park. You search for both the black and white Rhinos, Lions, Antelopes, visit the shore lines for the few flamingos and pelicans. The Lake Nakuru’s diverse ecosystem offers a spectacular introduction to the abundance of nature in East Africa. Later you will be transfered to Masai Mara  arriving in the evening for
Dinner andwill be at the camp or lodge

Full day spent exploring the park in search of the big 5/other predators. Optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost of US$ 450 per person. Dinner and overnight at the Camp or Lodge. The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see Lions, Rhinos, Hippos, Crocodiles, Giraffe, Wildebeests, Zebras, Buffalo, Warthogs, Hyenas, Jackals, Wild dogs, Leopard, many kinds of Antelopes and Elephant. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savanna- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vultures .

After breakfast, we will head back to Nairobi arriving by early evening. You will either be dropped at a Nairobi hotel or at the airport.

From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
Everything was perfect.

Agent: Wild Portraits Safaris

I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numer (Read More)ous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politeness, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
