Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
  • Pick up at JKIA or your Nairobi hotel at 07:30 hours.
  • Our Safari Consultant will provide a brief overview of the safari.
  • Depart from Kenya's capital city early in the morning and drive towards the Kenyan coast.
  • Make several stops along the way for scenic views and coffee breaks.
  • Arrive in time for lunch at Sentrim Amboseli Lodge.
  • After relaxing from the 5-hour drive, embark on your first game drive in search of elephants and other interesting wildlife.
  • Conclude the evening with silhouette photography as the sun sets, while enjoying views of Mount Kilimanjaro with animals in the foreground.
  • Our itinerary is flexible, allowing you to choose half-day game drives in the morning and again in the afternoon after a lunch break.
  • Amboseli National Park is the best place to see large herds of elephants.
  • The dusty plains also host cheetahs and lions among the big cats.
  • On early morning game drives, you have a higher chance of spotting rarer mammals such as the honey badger, African wildcat, and African civet.
  • We always recommend our guests leave the lodge at the earliest legal times with a packed breakfast to enjoy the morning serenity.

  • You will leave Amboseli National Park after breakfast and proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park.
  • Lake Nakuru is home to the first Rhino Sanctuary established in Kenya.
  • After approximately 6 hours, you will arrive and start your game drive in this awe-inspiring park.
  • During the game drive, you will search for both black and white rhinos, lions, and antelopes.
  • You will also visit the shorelines to see flamingos and pelicans.
  • Lake Nakuru National Park is home to the Big Four: lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffaloes.
  • The diverse ecosystem of Lake Nakuru offers a spectacular introduction to the abundance of nature in East Africa.
  • Dinner and lunch will be served at Ziwa Bush Lodge.
  • Depart from Nakuru early in the morning and travel to the Masai Mara with several stops en route.
  • Arrive at the Mara in time for lunch.
  • In the afternoon, embark on an evening game drive in search of the big cats of the Masai Mara, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and rhinos, as well as other species.
  • The Masai Mara National Reserve offers unrivaled opportunities for big cat sightings.
  • Return to Enkorok Mara Camp for dinner and overnight accommodation.
  • Full days spent exploring the reserve in search of the Big Five and other predators.
  • An optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost of US$450 per person.
  • The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, leopards, various kinds of antelopes, and elephants. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place: the annual migration of millions of wildebeests and zebras from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Following closely behind are the predators of the savanna - lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, jackals, hyenas, and vultures.

Cancellation Policy

All bookings made with the company are subject to these terms.

1. Payment, Cancellation, and Refund Policy
  • You will need to pay a deposit of at least 40% of the booking value for the booking to be confirmed. Please note that the deposit amount varies based on the tour type and will be communicated to you before making the booking.
  • Once the booking is accepted by us, we will send you a booking confirmation email with the voucher, which will serve as a contract between us from the date we send the confirmation. All details about the balance payment due before the departure date will be mentioned in the booking voucher. If this balance is not paid on or before the due date, we reserve the right to cancel the booking.
  • In case of cancellations, the following charges will apply on the amount paid:
    • 45% if cancelled between 60 and 45 days prior to arrival
    • 60% if cancelled between 44 and 30 days prior to arrival
    • 100% if cancelled 30 days and 24 hours prior to arrival
2. If You Change Your Booking
  • After your booking has been confirmed, should you wish to make any changes to your itinerary or request an earlier departure date, we will make every effort to accommodate your requests based on availability. However, there may be additional costs involved to accommodate your request. These costs are in addition to the fee quoted for your initial safari. Normal cancellation fees apply if you wish to postpone your departure.

All in all it was such a special vacation and I can’t wait to explore more of Africa. People are great ! So warm and friendly and what a truly blessed country with so much nature and wildlife. I would highly recommend Wild Portraits and James and Ben for your travel to Kenya.
What's Not Good: please be careful while entering the country at immigration - make sure your passport is stamped. We had some issue with this. Can’t complain about anything else. It was beyond our expectations.

James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. Best safari trip ever!

We just came back from our second safari trip with James of Wild Portraits Safari. We had the greatest possible experience during our 9 day-trip from Amboseli (Kenya), to Tarangine, Ngorongoro, Sereng (Read More)eti (Tanzania) and then to the Mara in Kenya. The full trip was well organized and included so many highlights: beautiful sights, the landscapes, the wildlife, James' ability to find the quiet spots with magnificent viewing, great accommodations, breakfast in the Mara, horseback riding amongst buffalo, hyena and giraffes, and of course James' great company, his care for his guests and his drive to make the full experience perfect. We are already planning our next visit and will certainly travel with James again. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a fantastic vacation.

James has a great knowledge of the animals, the nature and culture as well. I was impressed of his amazing respect for the wild life. This was the cause for intense moments close to wild animals in their natural habitat. Apart from this his photographic expertise provided unique motives. The Best Kenyan Safari

I have been on multiple photography tours, both to Africa and other places, and let me just say that the photography tour that I just took with Wild Portraits Safaris (WPS) ranks up there with the bes (Read More)t of the best. Everything about the trip was simply spot on perfect. From the very beginning communications, through a need for me to reschedule (my own fault, not theirs), through to the final minutes of the tour...everything was smooth, easy, well-communicated and perfectly executed. I went to Amboseli, Lake Naivashu, and the Mara. I was set up in great accommodations, with special consideration on making sure that we were able to get out into the field in the shortest amount of time. A few things that set WPS apart from other tours. First is the ability to personalize the tour to your interests. Unlike other safari tours with set schedules and specifically timed-itineraries, just let James, the owner/driver/ tour guide, know your interests and he'll continually plan and look out for opportunities and present options to you. For me, he knew I was interested in experiencing as much as possible, so he made sure that we had all day game drives while in the Mara. Second is the fact that James is an excellent photographer, himself. That means that he is constantly looking for the perfect lighting, angle, and composition to hep you get your best photos. Third, you cannot find any tour guide with as much passion for his job. This has led him to learn as much as possible about the land, the conservation efforts, the animals and how all of the factors integrate with each other. Each day wasn't just a photo tour: each day was an immersive learning experience. You definitely can't find a tour company that tries as hard as WPS to make sure that you get every ounce of opportunities in the short time that you are there. For instance, he added an impromptu visit to Nairobi National Park, because I had a lot of extra time before my outbound flight. And lastly, James is an extremely nice person. If you go on safari with WPS, you'll leave with tons of photos, memories, and a friend. I've already planned my next trip with WPS.
