Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

You will be picked up from your city hotel or the Airport in Nairobi and depart early morning to Masai Mara National Reserve, it holds one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed, in the numbers that once roamed the plains and forests of Africa. As the northern tip of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara hosts the spectacular seasonal migration of many thousands of Wildebeest, Zebras, and attendant predators.

Arrive in time for lunch at your hotel, lodge, or tented camp, and then go on an afternoon game drive, returning back at sunset for dinner and overnight.

You will spend a full day exploring the rich tree-studded grassland and rolling hills of the famous savannah on a wildlife-viewing tour. The Mara is well-known for its vast herds of plains game animals, such as leopards, cheetahs, lions, and other herbivores. It is home to virtually every other type of wildlife found in Kenya.

You will have a picnic lunch under a flat-top acacia tree in the savannah while watching the animals grazing. After that, you will continue with the wildlife viewing en route to your camp, arriving late in the afternoon after thoroughly exploring this massive grassland savannah that measures 1,500 sq.

You can also book a balloon ride early in the morning, which is an optional activity. After landing, the crew will assist you out of the basket and escort you to a lovely setting for a bush breakfast, which is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Later, you can join your driver guide and proceed with a full-day game drive.

You will have an early morning pick-up with a Masai village visit, followed by a scenic drive to Lake Naivasha. Renowned worldwide for its serene beauty and abundant birdlife, Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake that serves as a haven for nature enthusiasts. The lake is home to a diverse array of bird species, including pelicans, cormorants, and the iconic African fish eagle, offering a birdwatcher’s paradise. Surrounded by lush greenery and acacia woodlands, it’s also a perfect spot to catch a glimpse of hippos lazing in the water or grazing along the shore. The tranquil atmosphere and stunning landscapes make Lake Naivasha one of Kenya’s hidden gems.

Additionally, Lake Naivasha is home to Hell's Gate National Park and Crescent Island, perfect for outdoor activities. Don’t miss the chance for an afternoon boat ride and optional walking safari.

You will begin your day with an early morning start and drive to Amboseli National Park. Upon arrival, check in at your accommodation and enjoy lunch. After lunch, you will proceed for an afternoon game drive in Amboseli National Park.

Amboseli National Park is located south of Nairobi. The park mainly consists of a dry, ancient lake bed and fragile grasslands, interspersed with patches of acacia woodland. In the southern area, you will find several small, rocky volcanic hills. The vegetation around the swamps of Ol Kenya, Ol Tukai, and Enkongo Narok is lush, featuring yellow-barked acacias and phoenix palms.

You will have dinner and spend the night at either a campsite or a lodge.

At Amboseli National Park, You have two exciting options for exploring the breathtaking wildlife and landscapes.

For the first option, you’ll start your day with a hearty breakfast before heading out into the park with a packed lunch. Spend the entire day uncovering the wonders of Amboseli, from its lush marshlands to its sprawling swamps, as you observe the incredible variety of wildlife. After a full day of adventure, you’ll return to the lodge in the late afternoon to unwind and reflect on your experiences.

The second option begins with an early morning game drive, the perfect time to see animals at their most active. After the drive, return to the lodge to enjoy a relaxing breakfast and lunch. Spend the midday hours in camp, where you can relax with a good book, write in your journal, or watch the vibrant birdlife around you. In the late afternoon, around 4 pm, you’ll head back into the park for another game drive to capture the magic of Amboseli as the day winds down.

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast in the morning, you will check out of your lodge, pack your belongings, and drive back to Nairobi. You have the option to have lunch at the Carnivore or the Tamarind Hotel in Nairobi City. After lunch, you will be dropped off at your respective hotel or the airport, marking the end of your safari.

Depending on the departure time of your homeward flight, please coordinate with your driver to ensure that you arrive at the airport on time so you don’t miss your flight.

P.S. You can choose to continue your holiday with a beach getaway to Diani or Mombasa, accessible by road, train, or flight from Amboseli.

Our Camptrek Safari through Kenya and Tanzania provided so many wonderful sights and experiences that will stay with us forever. From elephants mating and Kilimanjaro at Amboseli NP, to close up rhino (Read More)'s at Lake Nakuru, to the lions and feasting hyena's in the Masai Mara, to witnessing the extraordinary wildebeest great migration in the Serengeti, along to the spectacular Ngorongoro crater, and then finally to Zanzibar and the magical Stone Town. What a trip!! Our guides Pilipili (Kenya) and Eliud (Tanzania) were not only really knowledgeable but also very engaging and great company. The optional hot air balloon ride in the Serengeti was great although we were hoping the balloon would have gone to higher elevations. The walking tour in Stone Town was fascinating and although the spice plantation tour in Zanzibar was interesting the constant pressure to put your hand in your pocket got tiresome. The lodge accommodation throughout the safari was brilliant. We highly recommend Camptrek Safaris - enjoy your adventure!

"Mal d'Africa" (longing for Africa) is our feeling (myself and my son) after this experience. We felt (and we're still feeling) a deep emotional connection and desire to experience (back) the continen (Read More)t of Africa, its culture, and its landscapes. It think it's linked to a variety of factors: personal experiences, cultural heritage, romanticized view of Africa. An intense and profound nostalgia felt during and after our jurney and wish to return. it's an emotional and spiritual feeling, difficult to explain clearly: - a strong desire to return to the places visited, to relive the emotions felt and to immerse oneself again in African culture. - a sense of inadequacy and impatience in resuming our daily routine after having lived the African experience - images, colours, sounds and smells of Africa suddenly resurface, creating a sense of nostalgia and desire. ALL the above is absolutely linked, inextricably to our Camptrek Safari team, our "guardian angels", Augustine and Last. They were just perfect in every respect, professional, empathy, knowledge of the populations, animals, history and parks: I really do not know how many questions, experiences... and also jokes we've shared with them. I will never forget the moments of great emotion that I saw my son experience, on his faces, his eyes, his tears: all of this will remain with us forever, in our memories (or better... until next adventures with them! :-)) We would like to thank Petite Margaret as well: she's been simply perfect in guide us at the time of drawing the jurney (10 days: Mombasa - Tsavo East - Amboseli - Tsavo West - Taita Hills - Diani Beach - Mombasa) and supporting us for any kind of info/doubts/also fears we faced during the booking. CAMPTREK GUYS: THANKS FOR ALL and... AFRICA IS A FEELING, YES!
