Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival at Nairobi
  • Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), you will be transferred to the Eka Hotel 
  • The rest of the day is at leisure depending on when your flight arrives.
  • An optional dinner at the carnivore restaurant.
  • After breakfast, you will depart from Nairobi for the Masai Mara National Reserve.
  • Lunch will be served on arrival, followed by an afternoon game drive through the reserve to the endless reaches of acacia-dotted grasslands studded with hazy hills where lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and numerous plain animals are in abundance.
  • Return for dinner at the Masai Mara Sopa Lodge and relax in comfort.
  •  Enjoy morning breakfast and depart on game viewing  drive with picnic lunch to the Mara river, where you can view hippos and crocodiles.
  • After lunch game drive enroute to the lodge , followed by a visit to a Masai manyatta or homestead to see the Masai culture. 
  • In the evening, enjoy a nature walk safari with a resident naturalist to experience the awakening of Africa in Masai land at sunset.
  • Breakfast and later drive to Lake Nakuru National Park arriving at the lodge in time for lunch at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge followed by an afternoon game drive.
  • Lake Nakuru is a soda lake, home to the greater and lesser flamingos. At times, you may see a lion crawling on the water's edge, or if you are a bird lover you will spot different bird species.
  • After breakfast, you will depart for Nairobi  and drop off for your onward travel arrangement.
  • For today, breakfast will be included in the price.

Having done already many safaris im several countries in the past, we might be c (Read More)onsidered as more or less experienced safari tourists. Still, our experience with Bush Mosaic - Brenda, Alex and James - was above expectations. Might be because this was our first visit to Kenya… We did have a little over a week to see the beauty of Kenya. Brenda created a package for us to visit Masai Mara NP, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli NP with a private driver/guide (James!). Notably Masai Mara (because of all the animals!) and Amboseli (the back drop of the Kilimanjaro!) were amazing.
One minor point was that it involved a lot of driving (we did not do our map-hom (Read More)ework). Another was that we had not realised that in these parks it was not allowed to do walking safaris, as we were used in doing in parks in countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. For the rest: excellent work!

From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.

James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey.
