Day 1 Nairobi → Maasai Mara | Afternoon Game Drive

Your safari adventure begins with a morning departure from Nairobi, traveling through the scenic Great Rift Valley with a stop at a viewpoint for photos. Continue onward to the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve, arriving at your lodge or tented camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon, head out on your first game drive across the vast Mara plains. Keep an eye out for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and other wildlife as your guide introduces you to this rich ecosystem. Return to camp at sunset for dinner and overnight in the heart of the African wilderness.

After an early breakfast, set out for a full day of game drives in the Maasai Mara with a packed picnic lunch. This extended safari allows you to explore different areas of the reserve in search of the Big Five and other iconic species. If traveling during migration season, you may witness dramatic river crossings and vast herds of wildebeest and zebras. In the afternoon, after your game drive, visit a traditional Maasai village. Here, you’ll learn about Maasai culture, daily life, traditional homes, and customs, offering a meaningful cultural complement to your wildlife experience. Return to your lodge or camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at camp before checking out. Depart the Maasai Mara and journey back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel or transfer to the airport for your onward flight.

All arrangements including hotel, game drives, food arrangements, personalised s (Read More)ervices by İmara Destinations was excellent We started our trip from New Delhi to Nairobi via Mumbai by Indigo flight. Dennis was there to welcome us at the airport early in the morning. We started off to Samburu, had lunch on the way had a relaxing evening at the resort. We had a wonderful game drive next day at the samburu national reserve, saw a leopard, zebra, giraffe, ostrich, etc from close quarters. We went to ol Pajeto conservancy, fed blind rhino, saw chimpanzees and other animals including two horned rhinos, proceeded to Nakuru saw pelicans, flamingos etc there, Masai Mara we stayed for three nights and had two game drives. Could see lots of lions, cheetah with its prey as well as a pregnant cheetah, zebras, giraffes etc. we also saw ostriches and other animals and birds there. We then went to Naivasha had a boat ride with walk and see crocodiles and hippos and crescent island visit walked with zebras, impalas and wildebeest but couldn’t see giraffe there. Due to floods last year many parts of crescent island got submerged so could only see part of the island. Our last destination was Amboseli park with game drive there. Overall it was a highly satisfying and interesting experience. İmara Destinations did a very good job of taking us to the exact spots where animals would be seen uninterrupted. Just went for 8 day safari with James and Wild Portraits Safaris...it was spot o (Read More)n perfect. Reasons 1.Clear communication and replies always comes very quickly on WhatsApp. 2. Very genuine with suggestions and doesn't do things as a job or formality. 3. James is very knowledgeable. 4. The enthusiasm and passion shown by James was just so infectious. 5. The planning of itinerary takes care of all the finer details. 6. They really take care of your focus and they don't try to sell anything you are not interested in. For example we skipped the village visit because we didn't see value in it. 7. Quite flexible and adjusts as things progress.
