Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Nairobi

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and transferred to your accommodation in Nairobi. After check-in, the remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to unwind after your international journey. You may choose to relax at the hotel, enjoy the facilities, or simply take in the vibrant atmosphere of Kenya’s capital city. Overnight stay at Concorde Hotel Nairobi on a bed and breakfast basis.

Depart Nairobi in the morning and journey towards the iconic Maasai Mara National Reserve, traveling through the breathtaking landscapes of the Great Rift Valley with scenic viewpoints along the way. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge or camp, followed by time to relax and settle in. In the afternoon, embark on your first game drive across the sweeping plains of the Mara, one of Africa’s richest wildlife ecosystems. Keep an eye out for elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species. Return to camp as the sun sets over the savannah. Dinner and overnight stay at Enkorok Mara Camp.

Spend a full day exploring the vast Maasai Mara ecosystem, renowned for its exceptional concentration of wildlife. Morning and afternoon game drives offer incredible opportunities to witness predator-prey interactions and observe animals in their natural habitat. During the Great Migration season (July to October), you may witness thousands of wildebeest and zebras crossing the Mara River in a dramatic natural spectacle. Optional experiences include a sunrise hot air balloon safari followed by a champagne bush breakfast in the wilderness, or a cultural visit to a traditional Maasai village to learn about their customs and way of life. Return to camp in the evening for dinner and overnight stay under the African sky.

After breakfast, depart the Maasai Mara and journey towards Lake Nakuru National Park, traveling through scenic highlands and rural countryside. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in this compact yet diverse park, famous for its successful rhino conservation program. Both black and white rhinos can often be spotted, along with Rothschild giraffes, buffalo, and lions. The lake itself attracts a wide array of birdlife, including flamingos, pelicans, and cormorants, creating a colorful and lively environment. Dinner and overnight stay at Sarova Woodlands.

After breakfast, depart for Lake Naivasha, a beautiful freshwater lake located in the Great Rift Valley. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge set along the lakeshore. In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic boat ride across the calm waters of the lake, where you may encounter pods of hippos and an abundance of birdlife, including African fish eagles, herons, and kingfishers. Later, visit Crescent Island for a guided walking safari—an exceptional experience that allows you to walk among free-roaming wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and gazelles in a peaceful, predator-free environment. Dinner and overnight stay at Sawela Lodge.

Depart Lake Naivasha and travel south towards Amboseli National Park, arriving in time for lunch at your lodge or camp. Amboseli is famed for its breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, which often provides a stunning backdrop for photography. In the afternoon, set out on a game drive across the park’s open plains and swampy wetlands. Amboseli is particularly known for its large herds of elephants, many of which are well-studied and remarkably habituated, offering excellent photographic opportunities. Other wildlife includes buffalo, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and a variety of bird species. Dinner and overnight stay at Penety Camp Amboseli.

Spend the day exploring Amboseli’s diverse habitats, from dry lake beds to lush swamps fed by underground springs from Mount Kilimanjaro. Morning and afternoon game drives provide opportunities to observe wildlife at different times of the day. You may witness elephants bathing in the swamps, predators on the hunt, and a wide range of birdlife. Optional activities include a cultural visit to a Maasai village, where you can gain insight into traditional customs, or simply relax at the lodge and enjoy the panoramic views of Kilimanjaro. Dinner and overnight stay.

Following breakfast, you will be transferred to Voi Railway Station for your scenic journey aboard the Madaraka Express (SGR) train to Mombasa. This comfortable train ride offers views of the Kenyan countryside, including Tsavo landscapes. Upon arrival in Mombasa, you will be met and transferred to your beachfront resort in Diani. The remainder of the day is at leisure—relax on the powdery white sands, enjoy the ocean breeze, or unwind by the pool. Dinner and overnight stay at Papillon Lagoon Reef.

Enjoy a full day at leisure along the stunning coastline of Diani Beach, known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and coral reefs. Optional activities include snorkeling and scuba diving in marine parks, dolphin watching excursions, traditional dhow cruises at sunset, deep-sea fishing, kite surfing, or guided excursions to nearby coastal attractions. Alternatively, relax at the resort, indulge in spa treatments, or simply soak up the tropical ambiance. Dinner and overnight stay.

Spend another day immersed in the serenity of the Kenyan coast. Take advantage of the resort’s facilities, enjoy beach walks, or explore additional optional excursions. This day is designed for pure relaxation, allowing you to unwind fully after your safari adventure. Dinner and overnight stay.

Following breakfast, you will be transferred to Ukunda Airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Nairobi. Upon arrival, you will be met and assisted with your transfer to the international airport for your onward departure. As your journey comes to an end, you leave with unforgettable memories of Kenya’s remarkable wildlife, landscapes, and coastal beauty.

Agent: Imara Destinations Africa

I had an amazing safari experience with Imara Destination! Everything was well o (Read More)rganized, from the booking process to the guided safari. The staff was friendly, professional, and made sure we had a comfortable and memorable trip. We were lucky to see incredible wildlife, and the guide was very knowledgeable, making the experience even more enjoyable. I am extremely satisfied with their service and would highly recommend Imara Destination to anyone looking for an unforgettable safari adventure. Thank you for making our trip so special!

Agent: Bush Mosaic Safaris

Having done already many safaris im several countries in the past, we might be c (Read More)onsidered as more or less experienced safari tourists. Still, our experience with Bush Mosaic - Brenda, Alex and James - was above expectations. Might be because this was our first visit to Kenya… We did have a little over a week to see the beauty of Kenya. Brenda created a package for us to visit Masai Mara NP, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli NP with a private driver/guide (James!). Notably Masai Mara (because of all the animals!) and Amboseli (the back drop of the Kilimanjaro!) were amazing.
One minor point was that it involved a lot of driving (we did not do our map-hom (Read More)ework). Another was that we had not realised that in these parks it was not allowed to do walking safaris, as we were used in doing in parks in countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. For the rest: excellent work!

Agent: Donwel Tours

Madhumita • 12 months ago

From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
Everything was perfect.

Agent: Wild Portraits Safaris

I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numer (Read More)ous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politeness, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
