Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Nairobi

Your safari begins in Nairobi, where our  Director will warmly receive you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After a meet, greet, and safari briefing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Nairobi for check-in. This first day is designed to help you relax after your flight and settle into the journey. Nairobi gives you a gentle introduction to Kenya before the safari continues into the national parks and wildlife reserves. You will spend the evening at leisure at Argyle Grand Hotel as you prepare for the days ahead. Dinner and overnight will be at the hotel.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will begin a full day Nairobi wildlife and conservation experience. Our team will guide the day smoothly, giving you a beautiful introduction to Kenya’s wildlife before you travel further into the safari circuit. You will start with Nairobi National Park, a unique wildlife destination located close to the city. Here, you may see lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, and other wildlife against the rare background of Nairobi’s skyline. It is a special experience because it allows you to enjoy a game drive without leaving the capital completely behind. You will then visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, where rescued young elephants are cared for before being prepared for future release into protected wild spaces. This visit gives you a meaningful look into elephant conservation and the work done to protect vulnerable wildlife. Later, you will continue to the Giraffe Centre, home to the endangered Rothschild giraffe. Here, you will enjoy close views of these gentle animals and may have the chance to feed them from the viewing platform. After the excursions, you will return to your hotel for a late lunch and an evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight will be at Argyle Grand Hotel.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will check out and depart for Amboseli National Park, a drive of approximately four hours. As you leave Nairobi, the landscape opens into southern Kenya, and the safari feeling begins to grow with every mile. Amboseli is one of Kenya’s most loved safari destinations. It is famous for its large elephant herds, open plains, and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. On clear days, the mountain rises beautifully above the park, creating one of the most iconic safari scenes in East Africa. You will arrive at Amboseli Sopa Lodge around lunchtime. After check-in, you will enjoy lunch and have time for a short afternoon rest. Later in the afternoon, our professional safari guide will take you out for your first game drive in Amboseli National Park. During the game drive, you may see elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeest, gazelles, lions, and many bird species. Amboseli is especially loved for elephant photography and wide open views. In the evening, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, you will set out for a full day game drive in Amboseli National Park. This day gives you more time to explore the home of large elephant herds and the beautiful landscapes below Mount Kilimanjaro. Our professional safari guide will lead the game drive according to wildlife movement, weather, and the best viewing areas. You will explore Amboseli’s open plains, marshes, dry lake beds, and acacia woodland while searching for elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, antelopes, and birdlife. You will also visit Observation Hill, one of the best viewpoints in Amboseli. From the top, you can enjoy wide views of the park, including wetlands, plains, and distant mountain scenery. This is a good place for photography and for appreciating the full beauty of Amboseli. Lunch will be served during the game drive, allowing you to spend more time in the park. Later, you will continue with wildlife viewing before returning to the lodge in the evening.

After breakfast, you will leave Amboseli and begin your journey towards Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. The drive takes approximately five hours, with a stop along the way to enjoy the beautiful Great Rift Valley scenery. You will arrive at Lake Naivasha in the afternoon and check in at Lake Naivasha Resort. After lunch, you will proceed for a boat safari on the lake. Lake Naivasha is known for its calm waters, hippos, fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants, and other bird species. The boat safari gives you a peaceful experience on the water and a beautiful change from the open savannah game drives. After the boat safari, you will continue with a nature walk at Crescent Island. This experience gives you a chance to walk in a relaxed natural setting where you may see giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, gazelles, and many birds. It is a calm and scenic activity, ideal for photography and fresh air. After the experience, you will return to the resort for time to relax.

After breakfast, you will check out and leave for Hell’s Gate National Park, one of Kenya’s most dramatic and adventurous Rift Valley parks. The park is known for its towering cliffs, rugged gorges, volcanic formations, open plains, and geothermal features. Unlike many safari parks, Hell’s Gate allows guided walking and cycling activities in selected areas. You may enjoy cycling or walking while observing wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, and many bird species. The park is also known for Fischer’s Tower, a striking volcanic plug, and beautiful landscapes that make it a unique destination for nature lovers and photographers. All activities will be done with respect for park rules and safety guidance. Our team will help coordinate the experience so that it remains enjoyable and well organized. After the Hell’s Gate experience, you will proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park, a drive of approximately two hours. On arrival, you will check in at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge and enjoy lunch. Later in the afternoon, our professional safari guide will take you out for a game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. Lake Nakuru is known for rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, waterbucks, baboons, birdlife, and scenic lake views. With some luck, you may also see lions or leopards. In the evening, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, you will depart Lake Nakuru and begin your journey to the Masai Mara National Reserve, a drive of approximately five hours. This is the day when the safari moves towards Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve and the heart of the Kenya Wildebeest Migration experience. You will arrive at PrideInn Mara Camp around lunchtime and check in. After lunch and a short rest, you will visit a Maasai village for a cultural experience. During the Maasai village visit, you will learn about Maasai customs, traditions, beadwork, dances, homes, and way of life. This experience gives you a deeper understanding of one of Kenya’s most well-known communities and also offers a chance to support local artisans through handmade souvenirs. This cultural afternoon complements the wildlife experience of the Masai Mara by connecting you to the people and traditions of the region. Later, you will return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

You will wake up in the Masai Mara, where the morning begins with cool air, golden light, and the sounds of the wild. After breakfast, you will leave the camp with packed lunch for a full day game drive across the reserve. This day is dedicated to the Kenya Wildebeest Migration Safari experience. Our professional safari guide will lead the day according to wildlife movement, river crossing possibilities, weather, and the best game viewing areas. You will search for the Big Five, which include lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. You may also see cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, topis, impalas, gazelles, hippos, crocodiles, and many bird species. From July to September, the Masai Mara becomes one of the best places in Africa to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration. During this season, thousands of wildebeest and zebras move through the reserve, and if nature allows, you may witness a Mara River crossing. This is one of the most unforgettable safari moments, as the herds gather and move across the river in search of fresh grazing. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the vast plains of the Masai Mara, surrounded by the beauty of the reserve. Later, you will continue with the game drive, following wildlife movement and enjoying the late afternoon light across the plains.

Today gives you another full day in the Masai Mara National Reserve. This second full day increases your chance of deeper wildlife viewing and possible Great Migration sightings, especially during the peak migration months. After breakfast, you will leave the camp with packed lunch and spend the day exploring different areas of the reserve. Our professional safari guide will take you through the best routes available for the day, based on animal movement and local guiding knowledge. You will stay on the lookout for big cats, including lions, leopards, and cheetahs. You may also see elephants moving across the plains, buffaloes grazing in groups, giraffes feeding near acacia trees, and large herds of zebras, wildebeest, impalas, topis, and gazelles. Hippos and crocodiles may be seen around the river areas, while many bird species add color and sound to the landscape. If the migration is active in the area, our guide will position the safari carefully and respectfully so that you can enjoy the experience without disturbing wildlife. You will have enough time for photography, observation, and quiet appreciation of one of nature’s greatest movements. Lunch will be served as a picnic inside the reserve. An optional hot air balloon safari can also be arranged at an additional cost for guests who want to enjoy the Mara from above.

After breakfast at the camp, you will check out and begin your return journey to Nairobi. The drive takes approximately five hours, passing through open landscapes, rural settlements, and the beautiful countryside of Kenya. This final journey gives you time to reflect on the safari memories collected across Nairobi, Amboseli, Lake Naivasha, Hell’s Gate, Lake Nakuru, and the Masai Mara. From elephant encounters and Rift Valley scenery to rhino tracking and the possible wildebeest migration experience, this safari gives you a rich view of Kenya’s wildlife beauty. Upon arrival in Nairobi, our  team will transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your outbound flight or drop you at your Nairobi hotel, depending on your travel schedule. This marks the end of your 10 Days Classic Kenya Wildebeest Migration Safari.

Agent: Bush Mosaic Safaris

Having done already many safaris im several countries in the past, we might be c (Read More)onsidered as more or less experienced safari tourists. Still, our experience with Bush Mosaic - Brenda, Alex and James - was above expectations. Might be because this was our first visit to Kenya… We did have a little over a week to see the beauty of Kenya. Brenda created a package for us to visit Masai Mara NP, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli NP with a private driver/guide (James!). Notably Masai Mara (because of all the animals!) and Amboseli (the back drop of the Kilimanjaro!) were amazing.
One minor point was that it involved a lot of driving (we did not do our map-hom (Read More)ework). Another was that we had not realised that in these parks it was not allowed to do walking safaris, as we were used in doing in parks in countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. For the rest: excellent work!

Agent: Donwel Tours

Madhumita • a year ago

From the very beginning, Christine and Judith from Donwel Tours were highly atte (Read More)ntive to what we were looking to get from our first ever trip to Kenya, and Africa, for that matter. We wanted to cover a lot of ground, and were going from one agency to another before we found Donwel as most agents couldn't quite squeeze everything we wanted into our itinerary. Judith and Christine however made it all possible. Good quality stays everywhere, regular communication through the trip to ensure we were ok and were getting what we wanted. Special shoutout to Teeman, our driver who absolutely fantastic, drove safely and ensured our safety and comfort throughout the trip, regularly coordinating with Christine. This is an excellent team and we would highly recommend their services.
Everything was perfect.

Agent: Wild Portraits Safaris

I reached out to Wild Portraits via a safari service website that featured numer (Read More)ous tour operators. Among the competition, James stood out due to his exceptional patience, politeness, and genuine curiosity displayed during our initial phone calls. James swiftly emerged as the singular operator I wished to proceed with, and here’s why: - Having substantial on-ground experience from spending extensive time on the safaris himself, he adeptly crafted a honeymoon package that perfectly suited my wife and me. - He adeptly navigated our budget flexibilities and constraints to arrange an impressive array of delightful lodges and activities, focusing on maximising our day-to-day adventures, ensuring each day on safari and at the lodges offered a unique experience. - A skilled photographer himself, James's comprehensive knowledge of various reserves and animal behaviours provided him with a distinct advantage in predicting animal locations and optimal times for photography, whether capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other moments. - Our priority was to maximise game time and reserve experiences. James made certain our vehicle was ready, complete with packed hot breakfast boxes, for a prompt 6 AM departure every morning of the trip. - Remarkably patient, he addressed all my queries, irrespective of whether they seemed 'silly' or insightful—from 'what to wear' at safaris, potential places to explore, to the animals we might encounter. In summary, my wife and I enjoyed an extraordinary experience in Kenya, with Wild Portraits Safaris significantly enhancing the quality of that journey. We are eagerly anticipating more safaris and look forward to embarking on them with James and his team!
