Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

Pick up from your hotel or airport.
Drive to the Masai Mara Game Reserve while enjoying scenic views of the Great Rift Valley.
The reserve covers 700 square miles of magnificent wilderness.
Experience the Africa of your imagination with endless reaches of acacia-dotted grasslands and hazy hills.
Afternoon game drive to see the sundowner while tracking the Big 5: Lions in large prides, Elephants, Buffalo, Zebras, and numerous plains game.
Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner.

Day 2 Full day at Masai Mara National Reserve

Full day spent exploring the park in search of the Big Five and other predators.
An optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged at an additional cost of US$450 per person.
Dinner and overnight stay at Zebra Plains Mara Camp.
The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here.
You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, leopards, many kinds of antelopes, and elephants.

Day 3 Masai Mara National Reserve to Lake Nakuru National Park

Departure after breakfast to Lake Nakuru National Park.
Approximately 5-hour journey to the park.
Begin game drive upon arrival at the park.
Search for black and white rhinos, lions, and antelopes.
Visit the shorelines to observe flamingos and pelicans.
Lunch and dinner will be served at Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 4 Lake Nakuru National Park to Lake Naivasha

Depart from camp after breakfast and drive to Lake Naivasha.
Make a stop at the East African section of the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, a geological wonder of the world.
Enjoy views of the stratovolcano, Mount Longonot, which features an 8x12 km caldera.
Continue driving past the small Italian Catholic church built in 1942 during World War II, when the Italians were prisoners of war, while Kenya was still a British colony until 1963.
Arrive in time for lunch, followed by a brief rest.
Head out for the afternoon's activities, starting with a one-hour boat ride on the only freshwater lake in the Kenyan Rift Valley, which is home to hippos and over 400 bird species.
Observe pied kingfishers in action and the African fish eagle searching for its essential protein source, fish.

Day 5 Lake Naivasha to Amboseli

Depart the lodge after breakfast and head to Amboseli via Nairobi.
Relax at the Sentrim Amboseli Lodge.
Embark on our first photography game drive after a 6-hour drive, searching for elephants and interesting creative setups.
Conclude the evening with silhouette photography as the sun sets.

Day 6 Full Day at Amboseli National Park

Depart from the lodge with a packed lunch.
Spend the day exploring the stunning Amboseli National Park.
Search for cheetahs, lions, and large herds of elephants, which are the main highlights of this beautiful park.
Observe the prolific birdlife in the swamps fed by Mount Kilimanjaro.
Spot hippos, zebras, gnus, and a variety of gazelles and antelope.

Day 7 Amboseli via Emali Train Station to Mombasa

You will leave after breakfast.
Your safari guide will drop you off at the train station for your Mombasa train.
Upon arrival in Mombasa, you will be transferred to Southern Palm Beach Hotel in Diani Beach.
You will check in for 3 nights, where you can enjoy your beach holiday.

Day 8 Full day at Diani Beach

Explore the coral reefs and diverse marine life with guided snorkeling and diving trips in Diani Beach.
Take a boat trip to a nearby island, known for its stunning coral gardens and clear waters, perfect for snorkeling and diving (at an extra cost).

Day 9 Full Day at Diani Beach

Enjoy beach activities such as swimming, snorkeling, and kite surfing during your stay in Diani.
Visit Shimba Hills for a safari and observe wildlife including elephants and giraffes.
Discover local culture in Mombasa's Old Town or participate in a Swahili cooking class.
Experience sunset cruises and horseback riding along the beach.

Day 10 Checking out of the Hotel

Cancellation Policy

1. Payment, Cancellation, and Refund Policy

A deposit of at least 40% of the total booking value is required for confirmation. The exact deposit percentage may vary based on the tour type and will be communicated prior to booking.
Upon confirmation, you will receive a booking voucher via email, which will serve as a contract between you and Wild Portraits Safaris.
Balance payment details and deadlines will be specified in the booking voucher.
If the balance is not paid by the due date, Wild Portraits Safaris reserves the right to cancel the booking.
Cancellation Charges (on amount paid):
- 45% if cancelled between 60 and 45 days before arrival
- 60% if cancelled between 44 and 30 days before arrival
- 100% if cancelled within 30 days and 24 hours of arrival

2. Booking Modifications

If you wish to make changes to your booking after confirmation (such as adjusting travel dates or itinerary), we will try to accommodate your request, subject to availability.
Additional charges may apply for any modifications.

We just came back from our second safari trip with James of Wild Portraits Safari. We had the greatest possible experience during our 9 day-trip from Amboseli (Kenya), to Tarangine, Ngorongoro, Sereng (Read More)eti (Tanzania) and then to the Mara in Kenya. The full trip was well organized and included so many highlights: beautiful sights, the landscapes, the wildlife, James' ability to find the quiet spots with magnificent viewing, great accommodations, breakfast in the Mara, horseback riding amongst buffalo, hyena and giraffes, and of course James' great company, his care for his guests and his drive to make the full experience perfect. We are already planning our next visit and will certainly travel with James again. I highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a fantastic vacation.

I have been on multiple photography tours, both to Africa and other places, and let me just say that the photography tour that I just took with Wild Portraits Safaris (WPS) ranks up there with the bes (Read More)t of the best. Everything about the trip was simply spot on perfect. From the very beginning communications, through a need for me to reschedule (my own fault, not theirs), through to the final minutes of the tour...everything was smooth, easy, well-communicated and perfectly executed. I went to Amboseli, Lake Naivashu, and the Mara. I was set up in great accommodations, with special consideration on making sure that we were able to get out into the field in the shortest amount of time. A few things that set WPS apart from other tours. First is the ability to personalize the tour to your interests. Unlike other safari tours with set schedules and specifically timed-itineraries, just let James, the owner/driver/ tour guide, know your interests and he'll continually plan and look out for opportunities and present options to you. For me, he knew I was interested in experiencing as much as possible, so he made sure that we had all day game drives while in the Mara. Second is the fact that James is an excellent photographer, himself. That means that he is constantly looking for the perfect lighting, angle, and composition to hep you get your best photos. Third, you cannot find any tour guide with as much passion for his job. This has led him to learn as much as possible about the land, the conservation efforts, the animals and how all of the factors integrate with each other. Each day wasn't just a photo tour: each day was an immersive learning experience. You definitely can't find a tour company that tries as hard as WPS to make sure that you get every ounce of opportunities in the short time that you are there. For instance, he added an impromptu visit to Nairobi National Park, because I had a lot of extra time before my outbound flight. And lastly, James is an extremely nice person. If you go on safari with WPS, you'll leave with tons of photos, memories, and a friend. I've already planned my next trip with WPS.
