Old Town Rhodes

The bustling old town of Rhodes is a narrow strip of land along the western part of Rhodes between the sea and the port. The beautiful architecture, rich history and the town's animosity is perhaps why it's listed as a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Network. One can spend their time shopping from the local shops, enjoying the history of the place through the historical buildings, or enjoying good food in cosy cafés.

The oldest inhabited city in Europe is a delight to visit for many reasons. The Old town of Rhodes showcases a hodgepodge of periodic architecture from when it was occupied by order of St. John to subsequently being ruled by the Turks and Italians. But other than the charm of the closely nestled town, its spirit is not medieval. The busy commercial streets are intricately connected with secluded alleys with many modern bistros and cafes. It has beautiful traces of its rich gothic history in the form of the Palace of the Grand Masters, the Great Hospital and the Street of the Knights in the Upper Town. At the same time, the lower town features gothic architecture, which coexists with huge mosques, historic public baths and charming buildings dating back to Ottoman rule. The streets of the old town are so intricately cobbled that it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes to wander around the area.
