The Côte d'Azur Observatory, commonly known as the Nice Observatory is located on the summit of Mount Gros in Nice, France. Famous for its rotating dome, man-made lake, and giant mobile telescope, the Nice Observatory surely fascinates all its visitors offering a serene view of the city’s landscape.

It houses the largest refracting telescope in the world known as the Grand Lunette. Along with this astronomical observatory being an architectural marvel, this place also showcases breathtaking views of the entire city of Nice. Established in 1878, and opened in 1887, the Nice Observatory is over 140 years old. It was designed and built by Gustave Eiffel and Charles Garnier.

How to reach the Nice Observatory

There are very limited parking areas so taking a car is not the best option. The Nice Observatory is easily accessible by bus. You can take bus number 84 from the Nice Riquier train station. It goes at 30-minute intervals and takes around 15 minutes to reach the observatory. Bus number 54 can also be taken to reach the Nice Observatory.
