Mangan sits above the Teesta river at about 956 metres, the quiet headquarters of North Sikkim and the heart of the state's large-cardamom country. Each October the Sikkim Cardamom Festival fills the town with produce fairs and cultural performances celebrating the harvest, while its monastery viewpoints look down over the Teesta valley toward the Singalila range on clear days.
