Notre Dame Cathedral, Lao Cai Overview
Built in the 20th century by French colonizers, the Catholic Church of Sapa is known for its unique architecture and cross-shaped bell tower in the west. It is also known as the Stone Church of Sapa or the Church of the Holy Lady of the Rosary or Notre Dame Cathedral. The windows are embellished with 32 colorful stained glasses depicting Jesus’s life. The church is closed throughout the week and only opens every Sunday for Mass. You can admire its architecture from the outside.
The Notre Dame cathedral is one of the finest churches in Vietnam. The Frech architects who built this church have carefully selected its location - the church faces the east (to welcome the light of God) and the bell tower faces west (birthplace of Jesus). The church is constructed entirely from stone and is constructed in the Roman Gothic Style.
