Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Kakkadampoyil is during monsoons. The village reaches its peak beauty during the rainy season. However, this beautiful village has a cold climate and can be visited at any time of the year. Kakkadampoyil experiences summers from March to May, during which the maximum daily temperatures reach 30 degrees Celsius. Monsoon season begins in June and goes on till the end of November. The South-West monsoon usually occurs from June to September, and the North-East monsoon occurs in October and November. Kakkadampoyil experiences winter season from December to February, during which the temperatures fall to 15 degrees Celsius.

Places to Visit

1. Kozhippara Waterfalls is one of the main attractions of Kakkadampoyil. It is located at the border of the village and offers a strikingly picturesque sight. The waterfall is a part of the River Kuthradampuzha and is a popular picnic spot among the tourists.

2. The Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department has declared it to be an eco-tourism project and manages the activity around the Kozhippara Waterfalls. The region is closed to visitors on all Mondays. It is prohibited to dip in the stream, and tourists are only allowed to view the waterfall from a distance.

3. Another famous waterfall in the vicinity is the Valamthode waterfall. Kakkadampoyil offers several sightseeing spots that provide a mesmerising view of the entire city of Kozhikode. There are plenty of bird watching spots as well. The village’s rich avian fauna includes exotic varieties like Grey fronted green pigeon, Blue-headed rock thrush, Malabar Trogon, etc.

Economy of the State

Kakkadampoyil is home to several indigenous tribal groups. Agriculture forms the backbone of the economy for this village. A wide range of crops are cultivated over here. The main ones include coffee, Arecanut, black pepper, cocoa beans, vanilla, plantain and coconuts. A recent trend in the village is that of poultry farms. The death percentage of chickens is meagre in this region, thus helping poultry farms flourish.

How To Reach Kakkadampoyil

Kakkadampoyil is situated at a distance of 48 km from Calicut city, 24 km from Nilambur, 19 km from Thiruvambady and 15 km from Koodaranhi. The nearest airport, as well as the railway station, is in Calicut. The Calicut International Airport is well connected to major Indian cities and the Gulf countries. There is a railway station in neighbouring Nilambur, but very few trains are operated from there. The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation runs numerous buses from Calicut and few from Nilambur and Thiruvambady towns, that connect Kakkadampoyil. A continuous jeep service is also available from Koodaranhi town to Kakkadampoyil.
